EPL Week 24 Preview: Stats, Insights & Everything You Need To Know

January 29, 2019

By Lindsay

It may be a few days since the last EPL round but most of these teams will be backing up from the F.A Cup. Here’s everything you need to know about this week’s EPL

ARSENAL VS CARDIFF – WEDNESDAY 30 JANUARY, 7:45PM, EMIRATES STADIUM

Arsenal

Last 5 Matches: DLWLW
Ladder Position: 5th
Goal Difference: +16 (GF 48, GA 32)

Cardiff

Last 5 Matches: DWLDL
Ladder Position: 18th
Goal Difference: -25 (GF 19, GA 44)

Much like last season, Arsenal’s spot on the table is down in large part to their home form. 29 points from 12 games and their only loss came in the opening game against Manchester City.

That total is good enough for the third best home record in the league and you should be able to back them to win this with plenty of confidence.

Did You Know?

Six of Arsenal’s eight Premier League goals against Cardiff have come in the second half, with five of those coming in the last 10 minutes.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 3.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Arsenal’s last four EPL night matches as a home favourite.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in seven of Arsenal’s last eight EPL night matches.
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored five goals in Arsenal’s last five EPL matches as a home favourite.

FULHAM VS BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION – WEDNESDAY 30 JANUARY, 7:45PM, CRAVEN COTTAGE

Fulham

Last 5 Matches: DWLLL
Ladder Position: 19th
Goal Difference: -30 (GF 21, GA 51)

Brighton

Last 5 Matches: DWDLL
Ladder Position: 13th
Goal Difference: -7 (GF 25, GA 32)

Seven points from safety after its most recent Premier League result, Fulham will be absolutely desperate to gain maximum points when Brighton & Hove Albion travels to Craven Cottage. The Cottagers had their hearts broken last time out in the Premiership, as a 93rd-minute goal from Tottenham’s Harry Winks saw them give up what had been a 1-0 half-time lead to ultimately fall 2-1.

Elsewhere, the Seagulls were also bested 2-1, falling at Manchester United to leave them with just eight points from their 12 Premier League away matches this season. Having claimed points in four of its last six EPL home matches, Fulham could yet take advantage of the visiting side’s poor away record. Furthermore, the Cottagers held Brighton to a 2-2 draw at the Amex during the reverse fixture earlier this season, indicating they have a rare good opportunity to come away with a crucial three points on Tuesday night.

Did You Know?

Fulham are winless in their last six league meetings with Brighton, losing five before a 2-2 draw in the reverse match in September.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in five of Brighton’s last six EPL matches as an away underdog.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in five of Brighton’s last six EPL matches as an away underdog.
  • Glenn Murray has scored three goals in Brighton’s last three league matches against Fulham.

Tip: Brighton

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN VS EVERTON – WEDNESDAY 30 JANUARY, 7:45PM, EMIRATES STADIUM

Huddersfield

Last 5 Matches: LLLDL
Ladder Position: 20th
Goal Difference: -27 (GF 13, GA 40)

Everton

Last 5 Matches: WLLWL
Ladder Position: 11th
Goal Difference: +1 (GF 34, GA 33)

Everton are offered a great opportunity to win when they travel to last-placed Huddersfield Town early tomorrow morning. It has been a truly horrible season for the Terriers, who are yet to win a match in 2019 and who remain a win adrift of any other club. Demotion appears imminent and the Toffees can drive another nail into the coffin.

Did You Know?

Jan Siewert will be the third German to manage in the Premier League and could be the first to win his first match in the competition. Felix Magath and Jurgen Klopp both drew.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in four of Huddersfield’s last five EPL home matches.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in each of Everton’s last four EPL night matches.
  • Richarlison has been the first goal-scorer in two of Everton’s last three EPL night matches.

WOLVERHAMPTON VS WEST HAM – WEDNESDAY 30 JANUARY, 7:45PM, MOLINEUX STADIUM

Wolves

Goal Difference: -4 (GF 27, GA 31)

West Ham

Last 5 Matches: WLDWL
Ladder Position: 10th
Goal Difference: -4 (GF 30, GA 34)

Wolverhampton Wanderers are seeking a second successive victory after their thrilling 4-3 win over Leicester City.

Did You Know?

No team have scored more 90th-minute goals in the Premier League this season than Wolves, with four, while only Burnley, with seven, have conceded more than West Ham’s five at this time. Wolves’ winner in September’s reverse fixture also came in stoppage time.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in six of West Ham’s last seven EPL night matches as an underdog.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has failed to hit in six of Wolverhampton’s last seven EPL matches as a home favourite.
  • Wolverhampton has lost each of its last three EPL night matches to nil.

Tip: Wolves

MANCHESTER UNITED VS BURNLEY – WEDNESDAY 30 JANUARY, 8:00PM, OLD TRAFFORD

United

Last 5 Matches: WWWWW
Ladder Position: 6th
Goal Difference: +13 (GF 46, GA 33)

Burnley

Last 5 Matches: LWWWD
Ladder Position: 16th
Goal Difference: -20 (GF 23, GA 43)

Continuing to excel under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Manchester United will go in search of its seventh consecutive Premier League victory when Burnley travels to Old Trafford. The Red Devils continued their stellar run with a 2-1 triumph over Brighton last time out.

That result also saw the continuation of Paul Pogba’s brilliant form under Solskjær, with the Frenchman scoring the opener to take his tally to five goals and four assists in the league since the Norwegian took over. The past month has seen a similar run of results for Burnley, which has picked up 10 points from its last four Premier League matches. That stretch was capped off by a 0-0 draw at seventh-placed Watford last time out – the highest ranked team Burnley has faced during the run.

Did You Know?

Man Utd have the highest PL win-rate for Tuesday fixtures, with 62.5 per cent, but Burnley manager Sean Dyche is undefeated in his five PL matches played on a Tuesday.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in seven of Manchester United’s last eight EPL matches as a home favourite.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in eight of Manchester United’s last nine EPL matches as a home favourite.
  • Marcus Rashford has scored a goal in each of Manchester United’s last four EPL matches.

Tip: Manchester United -1.0

NEWCASTLE VS MANCHESTER CITY – WEDNESDAY 30 JANUARY, 8:00PM, ST JAMES’ PARK

Newcastle

Last 5 Matches: LDLLW
Ladder Position: 17th
Goal Difference: -12 (GF 19, GA 31)

City

Last 5 Matches: LWWWW
Ladder Position: 2nd
Goal Difference: +45 (GF 62, GA 17)

In their last Premier League match, Newcastle got to face a Cardiff side battling relegation, this time they face a Manchester City side battling for the title. Also not helping is the fact Newcastle have the third worst home record in the competition, picking up just ten points at St James’ Park.

City are on a four game winning run in the Premier League and have held their opponents scoreless in each of the last two matches.

Did You Know?

Manchester City are unbeaten in 22 Premier League matches against Newcastle, their longest such run against any side in the competition.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Manchester City’s last seven EPL matches.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has failed to hit in four of Newcastle United’s last five EPL home matches.
  • Raheem Sterling has been the first goal-scorer in two of Manchester City’s last three EPL matches against Newcastle.

Tip: City -1.0

BOURNEMOUTH VS CHELSEA – THURSDAY 31 JANUARY, 7:45PM, VITALITY STADIUM

Bournemouth

Last 5 Matches: LLDLW
Ladder Position: 12th
Goal Difference: -9 (GF 33, GA 42)

Chelsea

Last 5 Matches: WWDWL
Ladder Position: 4th
Goal Difference: +21 (GF 40, GA 19)

Bournemouth finally returned to winning form at the expense of West Ham last weekend, but they’ll need to improve drastically again to compete with Chelsea. Chelsea dropped all the points away to crosstown rivals Arsenal last week but are faced with an ideally opportunity to atone here.

Did You Know?

Only at the Etihad Stadium, where there have been 50, have more Premier League goals been scored than AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium this season, where there have been 38.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in six of Bournemouth’s last seven EPL matches as a home underdog.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has failed to hit in four of the last five EPL matches between Bournemouth and Chelsea.
  • Across all competitions, Eden Hazard has scored seven goals in his last eight appearances against Bournemouth.

Tip: Chelsea -1.0

SOUTHAMPTON VS CRYSTAL PALACE – THURSDAY 31 JANUARY, 7:45PM, ST MARY’S STADIUM

Southampton

Last 5 Matches: LLDWW
Ladder Position: 15th
Goal Difference: -15 (GF 25, GA 40)

Palace

Last 5 Matches: DLWLL
Ladder Position: 14th
Goal Difference: -9 (GF 23, GA 32)

Both of these teams will be looking nervously over their shoulder, knowing they are anything but secure right now.

The Saints are in good form right now, winning their last two after holding Chelsea to a scoreless draw. Helping their status as favourites is the fact they won the first meeting between the sides at Selhurst Park and would love to complete a Premier League double over Southampton for the first time.

That being said, even with back to back losses on their ledger, Palace have been in their matches and facing a side in a similar position to them on the table should level things out.

Did You Know?

Fifty-nine per cent of Southampton’s 22 points this season have come in their eight matches under manager Ralph Hasenhüttl (W4 D1 L3).

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Southampton’s last five EPL home matches.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in each of Southampton’s last six EPL home matches.
  • James Ward-Prowse has been the first goal-scorer in each of Southampton’s last two EPL matches.

Tip: Draw

LIVERPOOL VS LEICESTER CITY – THURSDAY 31 JANUARY, 8:00PM, ANFIELD

Liverpool

Last 5 Matches: WWLWW
Ladder Position: 1st
Goal Difference: +41 (GF 51, GA 17)

Leicester

Last 5 Matches: WLWLL
Ladder Position: 9th
Goal Difference: 0 (GF 29, GA 29)

After surviving a scare against Crystal Palace during its last Premier League fixture, Liverpool will go in search of an easier result when Leicester City visits Anfield. The Reds’ 4-3 victory over Palace came due to a second half which saw them score four goals in order to come from one down at the main break. Unfortunately for the league leaders, the result did not come without consequence, with James Milner sent off during the second half.

The England international had been playing full-back due to a number of injuries within the Liverpool defence and without reinforcements forthcoming, Jurgen Klopp may have a selection headache to deal with against the Foxes. Those headaches would be alleviated if his offence fires on Wednesday evening, and when considering Leicester will enter this fixture coming off its own 4-3 loss at Wolverhampton which involved some shambolic play at the back, the Liverpool frontline will be tipped to do just that.

Did You Know?

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 32 home Premier League matches (W23 D9), the longest such run in the division since Manchester City went 37 without defeat between December 2010 and December 2012.

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 3.5 Goals’ market has hit in each of Liverpool’s last four EPL matches at Anfield.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in 14 of Leicester’s last 16 EPL night matches.
  • Mohamed Salah has scored nine goals in Liverpool’s last seven EPL matches as a favourite.

Tip: Liverpool -1.0

Ladder Position: 3rd
Goal Difference: +25 (GF 48, GA 23)

Watford

Last 5 Matches: LDDWD
Ladder Position: 7th
Goal Difference: 0 (GF 32, GA 32)

Spurs will be eager to make it two in a row when they host Watford on Thursday morning. This Watford side has been capable of big performances and results all season, but their form recently has been a bit difficult to gauge and this match will be a serious test.

Did You Know?

Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in their last seven home matches against Watford in all competitions, winning six, since a 3-2 League Cup defeat in October 1994

Betting Insights

  • The ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ market has hit in seven of Watford’s last eight EPL night matches as an underdog.
  • The ‘Both Teams to Score’ market has hit in each of Watford’s last five EPL night matches.
  • Watford has conceded at least two goals in each of its last seven EPL night matches

Tip: Spurs -1.0
