Monday of the 2022 World Cup was the final day where nations played their second game of the tournament. The African nations of Cameroon and Ghana had no problem scoring goals, but also struggled in keeping the ball from going into their net as well. Cameroon and Serbia played to a 3-3 tie, while Ghana survived a series of defensive miscues in the midway point of the second half to beat South Korea 3-2.
Ghana got two goals from Mohammed Kudus, who plays for Ajax in the Dutch League. The other Ghana goal scorer was centre back Mohammed Salisu of Southampton in the English Premier League. Cameroon’s goal scorers were Jean-Charles Castelletto of France’s Ligue 1 Nantes, striker Vincent Aboubakar, who plays for Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia, and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who plays for Bayern Munich in Germany’s Bundesliga.
What was most impressive of Cameroon’s play on Monday was their comeback. Serbia had a 3-1 lead before Cameroon marched back with two goals. The Serbian goal scorers were Strahinja Pavlovic of Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg, Sergej Milinkovic of Italy’s Lazio, and Aleksandar Mitrovic of England’s Fulham.
Meanwhile, the games featuring Portugal versus Uruguay, and Brazil versus Switzerland were much more defensive in nature. There was only one goal scored in the Brazil and Switzerland game, and that was from Casemiro of Manchester United in the 83rd minute. While Portugal beat Uruguay 2-0 on two goals from Bruno Fernandes. Like Casemiro, Fernandes plays for Manchester United.
In Group G, Brazil is in control with six points. They are followed by Switzerland with a record of one win and one loss for three points. Serbia and Cameroon each have one loss and one draw for one point.
In Group H, like Group G, there is one team each with six points and three points. Then there are two teams with one point. Portugal is in first, Ghana is in second, while South Korea and Uruguay are tied for third.
