Dolphins sign linebacker David Long and Bears sign linebacker T.J. Edwards

According to Travis Wingfield of miamidolphins.com, the Miami Dolphins signed linebacker David Long Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, and according to Jim Wyman of Pro Football Focus, the Chicago Bears signed linebacker T.J. Edwards of Lake Villa, Illinois on Friday.

Long Jr. signed a two-year contract worth $11 million and Edwards signed a three-year contract worth $19.5 million according to Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports. Both players have four years of National Football League experience with one other team. Long Jr. was with the Tennessee Titans and Edwards was with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Long Jr. played 12 games with the Titans last season. He had 86 combined tackles (52 solo tackles and 34 assisted tackles), seven tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, two interceptions for four yards, and five pass deflections. Long Jr.’s interceptions came in a 21-17 Titans win over the Washington Commanders on October 9 and in a 19-10 Titans win over the Indianapolis Colts on October 23.

In his career, Long Jr. has 230 combined tackles (137 solo tackles and 93 assisted tackles), 15 tackles for a loss, five quarterback hits, four interceptions for 10 yards, 14 pass deflections and two forced fumbles. Long Jr.’s forced fumbles came in a 35-32 Titans win over the Kansas City Chiefs on November 10, 2019 and in a 42-13 Titans win over the Buffalo Bills on October 13, 2020.

Edwards played 17 games with the Eagles last season. He had 159 combined tackles (99 solo tackles and 60 assisted tackles), 10 tackles for a loss, five quarterback hits, seven pass deflections, one fumble recovery and two sacks. Edwards’s sacks came in a 24-8 Eagles win over the Washington Commanders on September 25 and in a 29-21 Eagles win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 2. Edwards’s fumble recovery came in a 17-16 Eagles win over the Indianapolis Colts on November 20.

In his career, Edwards has 389 combined tackles (215 solo tackles and 174 assisted tackles), 20 tackles for a loss and nine quarterback hits. He also has two interceptions for 14 yards, 13 pass deflections, two forced fumbles and five sacks. Edwards’s other career fumble recovery came in a 40-29 Eagles win over the New Orleans Saints on November 21. Edwards was one of two linebackers the Bears acquired in free agency. The other was Tremaine Edmunds.
