The Miami Dolphins have found a veteran cornerback to replace Jalen Ramsey, who they traded last month to the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Saturday, the Dolphins signed cornerback Jack Jones of Long Beach, California to a one-year contract according to the Associated Press. The financial terms of the contract were not released.
Jones is joining his third National Football League franchise. He previously played two seasons each with the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders.
In 2024, Jones played 17 games with the Raiders. He had 69 combined tackles (52 solo tackles and 17 assisted tackles), three tackles for a loss, three interceptions for 53 yards, one pick six, and 16 pass deflections. Jones’s interception return for a touchdown came in a 41-24 Raiders loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on November 3. What is remarkable of Jones’s career statistics is the fact he has four interception returns for a touchdown already, and he has only played three NFL seasons.
Jones was made available to the Dolphins because the Raiders released him on April 6. In a corresponding move according to NFL Trade Rumors, the Dolphins waived cornerback Ryan Cooper of San Jose, California.
It should be noted that Jones began his NFL career as a safety while with the Patriots in 2022. In his rookie season, Jones had a game to remember against the Green Bay Packers. He had a fumble recovery, forced fumble, and 40 yard interception return for a touchdown in a 27-24 Patriots loss to the Packers on October 2, 2022. Jones has since been a cornerback over the last two seasons.
