Dolphins safety Jason McCourty retires at age 34

According to Rogers Sportsnet on Friday, safety Jason McCourty of Nyack, New York announced his retirement at the age of 34. McCourty played 13 seasons in the National Football League with the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins. He spent his first 12 seasons as a cornerback before being listed as a free safety with Miami.
McCourty spent eight seasons with the Titans from 2009 to 2016. He then was with the Browns in 2017, before three seasons with the Patriots from 2018 to 2020, and one season with the Dolphins in 2021. In seven games with the Dolphins in 2021, McCourty had 21 combined tackles (11 assisted tackles and 10 solo tackles), and two pass deflections. One of McCourty’s pass deflections came against his old team, the Patriots, in the Dolphins’ 17-16 win in their regular season opener.

In his career, McCourty played in 173 career games, and had 744 combined tackles (598 solo tackles and 146 assisted tackles), 18 tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, one sack, 18 interceptions for 174 yards and one pick six, 108 pass deflections, nine forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
McCourty won one Super Bowl. That came with the Patriots in 2019 as New England beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3. During the Patriots’ playoff run that year, McCourty played in his only three career playoff games, and in the process had four pass deflections, and 1o combined tackles (nine solo tackles and one assisted tackle).
Jason McCourty’s twin brother Devin is a safety with the Patriots. Jason McCourty played his college football career at Rutgers University and was the Titans’s sixth round pick, 203rd overall, in the 2009 NFL Draft.
