Did Tom Brady almost sign with the Chicago Bears?
October 1, 2024
One of the biggest stories from week four of the 2024 National Football League regular season did not come on the field, but in the broadcast booth. When FOX Sports hired Tom Brady, who is considered the greatest football player of all-time by The Sporting Base, to a 10-year contract worth $375 million, it was going to be very interesting to hear some of the stories Brady had during his 23-year NFL career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He delivered with a significant anecdote on Sunday.
Brady was in the booth of the Buccaneers’s 33-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. During the broadcast, he discussed something very interesting indeed. Apparently, when Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to the 2020 NFL season, he also received a significant offer from the Chicago Bears that he strongly considered.
Ultimately, Brady chose the Buccaneers. A couple of the reasons he chose Tampa Bay was because of wide receivers Mike Evans of Galveston, Texas and Chris Godwin of Middletown, Delaware, as well as the offensive schemes that former Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians of Paterson, New Jersey had in place. Brady also wanted to be in Tampa because of the warmer weather.
The move paid off for Brady, as during his three seasons with the Buccaneers, he won the Super Bowl. On February 7, 2021, Brady guided the Buccaneers to a 31-9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. In the 22-point win in Tampa, Brady was the Super Bowl most valuable player, as he completed 21 of 29 passes for 201 passing yards and three touchdowns.
