One of the biggest news in women’s golf in 2024 was the fact that 2014 Kraft Nabisco champion Lexi Thompson of Coral Springs, Florida was set to retire at the end of the 2024 season at age 29. Thompson was in the spotlight on a regular basis, and most of the words she gave made one think she was done playing professional golf.
According to the BBC, Thompson stated, “While it is never easy to say goodbye, it is indeed time. At the end of the 2024, I will be stepping away from a full professional golf schedule….I’m looking forward to what life has in store.”
Well the most notable word in the previous paragraph was “full.” We may not be seeing Thompson on the course every week, but she is still playing significantly more professional golf than Tiger Woods at the moment. What “life has in store” for Thompson is a lot more golf. Â The bottom line is Thompson has not retired, and has just cut back her golf schedule.
In 2025, Thompson has still played eight tournaments. She has made the cut in six events, including a fourth place finish at the Meijer LPGA Classic last month. In all, Thompson has made $638,212, which is still 33rd most on the LPGA Tour.
Now the question will be will we see Thompson at the Women’s British Open and Evian Championship? According to Rati Agrawal of Essentially Sports on Wednesday, it is unlikely Thompson will make the trip overseas. Thompson is expected to participate next in Portland next month.
