CLASSY sprinter Cylinder gets the chance to follow in the footsteps of his illustrious stablemates as he attempts to give James Cummings his third consecutive victory in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m, 3yo) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Cummings won two years ago with Australia’s horse of the year last year Anamoe and he was successful in 2022 with gun sprinting mare In Secret.

Cummings also won with Bivouac, in 2019, who is by Exceed And Excel. He also co-trained Hallowed Crown who won in 2014 with his legendary grandfather Bart Cummings.
Cylinder, who finished second in the Golden Slipper Stakes, resumed from a spell with a win in the Vain Stakes at Caulfield and he is $1.95 favourite with PlayUp.
Cummings said on SEN TRACK that Cylinder had improved from that run where things panned out well for him for four horses flying over the first 400 metres.
“This is perfect up to six furlongs three weeks later,” Cummings said.
“It’s a really good race, historically. You have no doubt that horses are going to jump out of the ground and race out of their skins.”
Cummings said Cylinder was up to contesting any race on the sprint calendar.
Cummings also has a twin attack on the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes with Golden Mile and Tamerlane.
He said the Theo Marks looked a good race for Golden Mile who is a $9.50 chance with PlayUp.
“I think you can rely on the way the horse was going first-up over six furlongs at Rosehill,” he said.
“He’s not too badly in at the handicap, considering he’s a G1 winner.”
“We’ve mixed things up with the horse and I like that he’s going into this race fitter than he’s been all preparation.”
“Back in distance might be his go, also.”
Cummings also said Tamerlane ($12) was going as well as he ever had.
