CUMMINGS OPTS FOR LESSER LIGHT

JAMES Cummings will take a two-pronged attack into the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) with his gifted mares In Secret and Zapateo taking on the super sprinter Nature Strip at Randwick on Saturday.

Cummings speaking on SEN TRACK gave a better push to the lesser light of the pair in Zapateo pointing out that she’s ready to win.

“I could be wrong, but I think the horse can win this race,” Cummings said of the five-year-old mare who is a $7 chance with PlayUp.

“She’s won over 1,000m round Moonee Valley, she’s got a wonderful first-up record and you can put the pen through her first run last preparation as nothing went right.”

“She finds herself in a ten-horse field where she can be in a prominent position early. She’s trialling like a sharp horse.”

“Zapateo in that race is one to watch.”

Cummings said his star mare In Secret could find the 1000 metres a bit short for her with so many fast horses in the race.

“She’s come back well and she will be ready to run a race fresh,” he said,

“If she can find a way to tack on and be within striking distance when she makes her run with 300m to go, it will make things interesting.”

Cummings said as long as she ran on charged to the line that would be a run which set up her preparation.

“A win would be a bit scary when you think how much better she will be over six furlongs.”

In Secret is $3.40 second favourite with PlayUp with Nature Strip a $3.20 favourite.
