Cowboys bring back cornerback Anthony Brown
September 23, 2023

According to Mike Fisher of Sports Illustrated on Friday, the Dallas Cowboys have brought back cornerback Anthony Brown of Tampa, Florida. The Cowboys were in need of a new cornerback after two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs of Gaithersburg, Maryland tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a Thursday practice session.
Brown had played seven seasons with the Cowboys from 2016 to 2022, before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers’s practice squad in the offseason. However, he was only with the Steelers for 16 days before being released. Brown then signed with the San Francisco 49ers on September 19. However, he was not with the 49ers for very long at all, as he was released only two days later.
This past season, Brown had 42 combined tackles (33 solo tackles and nine assisted tackles), one tackle for a loss, seven pass deflections and one forced fumble in 12 games for Dallas. The forced fumble came in a 25-10 Cowboys win over the Washington Commanders on October 2, and the tackle for a loss came in a 22-10 Cowboys win over the Los Angeles Rams on October 9.
In Brown’s career, he has 324 combined tackles (260 solo tackles and 64 assisted tackles), 11 tackles for a loss, six quarterback hits, nine interceptions for 76 yards, one interception for a touchdown, 59 pass deflections, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery for 29 yards, one touchdown and four sacks. The fumble recovery for the major score came in a 37-34 Cowboys win over the New York Giants on October 11, 2020. The pick six of 45 yards, also came against the Giants on October 10, 2021, in a 44-20 Dallas victory.
