Chris Paul moves into second on NBA all-time assist list

NBA veteran point guard and future hall of famer Chris Paul had a memorable Sunday in the San Antonio Spurs’s 121-116 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Paul moved into second place all-time in NBA assists with 12,099. However, Paul is still 3707 assists back of John Stockton of Spokane, Washington, who has the most assists all-time with 15,806.
On Sunday, Paul finished with 10 assists. With his third helper, he had 12,092 assists in his career, and moved past Jason Kidd of San Francisco, California, who has 12, 091 career assists. Paul recorded his milestone assist on a three-point shot made by Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama of Le Chesnay, France from 26 feet with seven minutes and six seconds left in the second quarter. At the time, Paul and Wembanyama helped get the Spurs within four points (49-45 New Orleans).
Paul became the third NBA player to record 11,000 assists on October 23, 2022. This milestone happened while Paul was with the Phoenix Suns in a 112-95 Suns win over the Los Angeles Clippers. There have since been four players to record 11,000 assists. The other is LeBron James of Akron. Ohio. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer has 11,219 assists.
In 2024-25, Paul is averaging 8.5 assists per game. He also has 10.2 points per game, four rebounds per game, 1.4 steals per game, a 428 field goal percentage, a .352 three point percentage, and a perfect 1.000 free throw percentage, as he has made all of 35 attempts from the free throw line.
Paul’s 12099 assists have come with seven different teams. He has had 4228 assists with the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, 4023 assists with the Los Angeles Clippers, 1848 assists with the Suns, 930 assists with the Houston Rockets, 472 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, 393 assists with the Golden State Warriors and 205 assists so far this season with the Spurs.
With the win, the Spurs improved to a record of 12 wins and 12 losses. They are at the .500 mark after being 38 games below .500 in 2023-24.
