There was a significant amount of anticipation and excitement for the Denver Broncos heading into this season. That is what happens when you acquire one of the game’s best quarterbacks in Russell Wilson. Unfortunately for the third straight year the Broncos lost one of their top wide receivers at the very beginning of the season, or in this case, even before the 2022 National Football League regular season was even set to begin.

On Tuesday during training camp practice, Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick of San Diego, California tore his anterior cruciate ligament according to Sam Robinson of Pro Football Rumours. Patrick was one of two Broncos players to tear his ACL during practice as running back Damarea Crockett of Little Rock, Arkansas also had a season-ending injury.

Patrick follows Courtland Sutton who tore his medial collateral ligament in the early stages of the 2020 NFL regular season and K.J. Hamler, who tore his medial collateral ligament in week three of the 2021 NFL regular season. This is the second significant injury for Patrick in his NFL career according to Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports, as he broke his hand during the 2019 NFL regular season.

In 2021, Patrick had 53 catches for 734 yards and five touchdowns. This came after a productive 2020 season where he had 51 catches for 742 yards. There was high anticipation that Patrick would have a 1000 yard receiving season with Wilson at the helm. Remember, the Broncos had struggled mightily at quarterback the last couple of years. Now Hamler will be counted on more to produce for the Broncos in a receiving role. Other Denver wideouts that will be relied on this year are Sutton and Jerry Jeudy.
