Nelly Korda of Bradenton, Florida has had a memorable 2026 golf season so far. Just over one month since winning the 2026 Chevron Championship, Korda won her second major of the year as she won the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open from the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, California. The event had added significance as Riviera Country Club is hosting the golf competition at the 2028 Olympic Games.

Korda had a winning score of eight-under-par. She had a first round score of two-over-par 73, a second round score of four-under-par 67, a third round score of four-under-par 67, and a fourth round score of two-under-par 69.

On Sunday, Korda had three birdies and one bogey. She birdied the first, sixth and 17th holes, and bogeyed the seventh hole. The 18th hole was dramatic for Korda. The world number one had a short putt which would have guaranteed her the title and prevented a playoff. The golf ball moved around about half the hole before finally dropping into the cup.

This was Korda’s fourth career major title. She also won the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship and the 2024 Chevron Championship.

Four other golfers were in contention. Charley Hull of Kettering, England and Gaby Lopez of Mexico City, Mexico were tied for second place at -7. In Gee Chun of Gunsan, South Korea was in fourth place at -6, and Sei Young Kim of Seoul, South Korea was in fifth place at -5. Chun and Kim were major champions from the past. Chun won the 2015 United States Women’s Open, the 2016 Evian Championship and the 2022 Women’s PGA Championship. Kim won the 2020 Women’s PGA Championship.
