In the 27th of a 32-part series, we are featuring all National Football League teams with a prediction of where each team will finish within their division, key off-season acquisitions and their top fantasy stars. Here are the San Francisco 49ers.
Key Off Season Acquisitions
There are five new notable San Francisco 49ers this season. They are wide receiver Mike Evans of Galveston, Texas, linebacker Dre Greenlaw of Fayetteville, Arkansas, center Jarrett Patterson of Laguna Hills, California, linebacker Deion Jones of Lithonia, Georgia, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa of Dayton, Ohio.
Evans signed a three-year contract worth $42.4 million on March 9. He had 30 catches for 368 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2025 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Evans missed half the season with various injuries.
Greenlaw signed a one-year contract worth $7.5 million with the 49ers on March 13. This was Greenlaw’s second stint with the 49ers after initially playing there from 2019 to 2024. This past season with the Denver Broncos, Greenlaw had 43 combined tackles (28 assisted tackles and 15 solo tackles), two tackles for a loss, one interception for 27 yards, two pass deflections, two quarterback hits, one forced fumble, and one sack.
The first quarterback hit came in a 33-32 Broncos win over the New York Giants on October 19. The sack and second quarterback hit came in an 18-15 Broncos win over the Houston Texans on November 2. The first tackle for a loss, first pass deflection and forced fumble came in a 10-7 Broncos win over the Las Vegas Raiders on November 6. The interception, and second pass deflection came in a 27-26 Broncos win over the Washington Commanders on November 30. The second tackle for a loss came in a 24-17 Broncos win over the Raiders on December 7.
The Dallas Cowboys traded Odighizuwa to the San Francisco 49ers for a third round pick in 2026 on March 11. Odighizuwa is joining his second NFL team after five seasons with the Cowboys. In 2025, Odighizuwa had 44 combined tackles (28 assisted tackles and 16 solo tackles), six tackles for a loss, 23 quarterback hits and 3.5 sacks.
Patterson was traded from the Houston Texans to the San Francisco 49ers for a seventh round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft on August 30. He spent the last three seasons with the Texans.
Jones was traded from the New Orleans Saints to the 49ers for running back Zamir White on August 23. The 49ers will be Jones’s fifth National Football League team. He previously played six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons from 2016 to 2021, one season with the Cleveland Browns in 2022, one season with the Carolina Panthers in 2023, and two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024 and 2025. This past season with the Buccaneers, Jones had 29 combined tackles (16 solo tackles and 13 assisted tackles).
Fantasy Stars
Christian McCaffrey of Castle Rock, Colorado is ranked fourth in fantasy football among running backs. Last year he had 311 rushes for 1202 rushing yards and 10 touchdown runs. McCaffrey also had 102 catches for 942 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches.
George Kittle of Madison, Wisconsin is ranked ninth among tight ends. Last year he had 57 catches for 628 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
Eddy Pineiro of Miami, Florida is ranked ninth among kickers. Last year he made 28 of 29 field goals, and 34 of 38 converts.
Projected Finish
The 49ers had a 12-5 record in 2025, but it was only good enough for third in the NFC West. Expect a return to third place in the division this year. However, a higher spot could be a possibility if the 49ers stay healthy.
