Bills running back Nyheim Hines to miss 2023 NFL season after jet ski accident
July 26, 2023

According to the Associated Press on Monday, Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines of Garner, South Carolina will miss the 2023 National Football League season after being in a jet ski accident. He was stationary at the time according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, but was hit by another jet ski rider. As a result, Hines suffered a serious knee injury.
Hines played for the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts in 2022. He was actually traded from the Colts to the Bills for running back Zack Moss of Hialeah Gardens, Florida on November 1, 2022.Â
Used primarily in a backup role, Hines only had 24 rushes for 33 yards and one rushing touchdown, along with 30 catches for 241 rushing yards and one receiving touchdown in 2022. Hines’s touchdown catch was from Bills quarterback Josh Allen for 10 yards in a 32-29 Bills win over the Miami Dolphins on December 17. At the time, the Bills took 14-6 lead, as the major score came with eight minute and 18 seconds left in the second quarter.
With the loss of Hines, expect a bigger workload for the other three main running backs on the Bills roster. The list includes James Cook of Miami, Florida, Damien Harris of Richmond, Kentucky, and Latavius Murray of Nedrow, New York. Harris played last season with the New England Patriots, and Murray shared his time with the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints. Back in November of 2021, I wrote the piece titled, “Could James Cook be better than his older brother Dalvin Cook?” Now with James Cook being number one on the Bills depth chart at running back, and Dalvin Cook being released by the Minnesota Vikings in 2023, that question could soon be a reality.
