Best Of The Best – Our 3 Best Bets For This Saturday 5/12

Last weekend saw Outrageous salute in the Festival Stakes for his first black type victory and this was a great result for subscribers after opening at $6 and being backed into $4.8. 

Over the last 10 weeks we have had 6 weeks where we have finished in front and this has resulted in an overall win of 7 units. After gradual success, a big day seems to be just around the corner and we will look to this weekend’s Rosehill meeting to make it happen.

Rosehill Race 2 – Papal Warior

This Waller 4yo gelding looks perfectly placed in this 3 and 4 YO BM72 after a nice run first-up at Rosehill over 1300m where he finished a length back in fourth. He will give a few kg to some of his fancied 3yo rivals but he has race experience on his side. He should sit just off the speed behind favourite Ellsberg and will be there to pounce if he is found wanting over the last 100m.

Rosehill Race 4 – Namazu

Namazu has been crying out for 1800m and represents great value now that he gets it. The Cummings 3yo colt finally draws a decent barrier and this along with the extra 200m should allow Bossy to settle him in more of a positive position after he settled at the rear and rattled home in the Spring Champion Stakes at Newcastle last start.

Rosehille Race 5 – Edison

Edison looks primed for victory third-up after two second placings in stronger grade this preparation. The key here are the formlines around those two seconds. First-up he finished 0.3L behind the promising Hilo and beat home Through the Cracks, who is being aimed at black type races. Second-up he finished second to Through the Cracks over 1300m at Newcastle on Hunter Day.

This looks like a very suitable race. Bigboyroy down in the weights looks like the main danger but it appears most of the risk on the $3.5 is on Josh Parr’s ability to overcome the outside barrier.  Edison usually presses forward and there does not look to be a worrying amount of speed in this. The bet of the day.
