Belmont Tip Sheet, Staking Plan and Horses To Follow – Saturday 12th September

Looks to be a nice day for racing on a decent card albeit a tough one. Track is a good 4 with 15-20kmph southerlys throughout the day. Necessary early with the current track to keep a keen eye on which lanes look the best, given the impossibility of predicting the track pattern this season.

Race 5 – 2:38PM AMELIA PARK PLATE (1000m)

4. Friday Knight – 2. Madam Torio – 1. Brooklyn Pier – 6. Just A Pinch

Really good 3 year old race this but a tough one from a betting perspective.

The map adds intrigue. Brooklyn Pier resumes here off the back of a sizzling 1000m trial and is very fast away from the machines, so from gate 1 should be able to hold the equally as speedy Madam Torio from finding the fence which leaves her breezing, a whole new concept for her which we haven’t seen her do yet this prep.

This leaves us with quite an awkward map for the horse that interests me the most, Friday Knight, who more than likely will be forced to drop out to close to the tail from the wide draw. This guy looks like a beast for the Gangemi’s with one of the more impressive trials I’ve seen in a while in the lead-up to this. Sat back off the speed, clicked up by Turner, hit 3rd gear before actually switching lead legs in the straight and motored past them and through the line with one of the better sprinting actions you’ll see, powerful and effortless. Had him marked $3.00 in my market, just not inclined to dive in given he will be spotting some pretty quick and talented ones many lengths on straightening and if the track is leaning more towards those on-speed on the day, only makes life more difficult for him, nevertheless, one I am very keen to see go round. All 3 of the above mentioned are capable here.

Race 7 – 3:55PM GLENROY CHAFF HANDICAP (1300m)

5. Super Teroitoa – 6. Tycoon Storm – 8. Ration Aly – 2. Lacevinsky

Buttering up here with ST who is just going so well for Colin Webster at the moment. Simply have to have something on at the current double figure price. Last start missed in a bob on the post over 1400m behind the very talented Ration Aly (who he also meets again here) when leading them up. This race shapes very differently to that day but still feel he is going to get a decent run and the price differential baffles me. Although Ration Aly did lunge at Teroitoa late on the line, he was still only beaten 0.04L, gets a 1.5kg weight-swing in his favour here and is over double the price. Count on Laqdar to be positive gate from the wide gate and with not much speed drawn inside him, should be able to cross and even breeze outside Lacevinsky, which if so is a very nice place for him to be in. Should get a lovely run on-speed while the 2 dangers, Tycoon Storm and Ration Aly, will be spotting him many lengths on straightening given they will get back from their wide alleys or risk being caught wide without cover if TS decides to be aggressive from 11. In a much bigger field, Ration Aly is going to need to circle around a few speed humps to get there while Tycoon Storm’s win at Northam didn’t do enough to convince me he is a star on the rise considering he beat next to nothing and was handed the race on a platter. At $10 and $3.25 the place, happy to be in the corner of Super Teroitoa again.

Race 8 – 4:30PM BUDGET CAR & TRUCK RENTAL HANDICAP (1000m)

5. This’ll Testya – 1. Condor Heroes – 2. Long Beach – 3. Silkinize

The race of the day, no-brainer. This’ll Testya vs Condor Heroes vs Long Beach over the 1000m scamper.

Condor Heroes is speed personified and from the friendly gate should find the fence. The horse that could potentially stop this being an eyeball battle of speed out in-front is what they decide to do with Copper Fury. Has shown in the past she is fast enough over the first 600m to lead just about any race, despite the fact that last start they weren’t real aggressive early which had her caught 3 deep. Expecting a far more aggressive ride from CJP here and anticipating she breezes outside Condor Heroes, with This’ll Testya crossing and being made to settle in behind those 2. If Mitch can get her to settle in behind them and into a rhythm, then I think this race is just about as good as over, but that is a big if. Have no doubt at all in my mind she is the best horse in this race, brings the race fitness, but a race she won’t be able to lead on her ear is a new kettle of fish. She ran serious time 1st up, and the scary part is she had so much left to give. Think she sets tongues wagging with a big, dominant performance here but it doesn’t come without risk.

Race 9 – 5:10PM CROWN TOWERS HANDICAP (1600m)

6. Moderator – 9. Arnies Boy – 10. Street Fair – 12. Watch Me Ney Ney
