Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Saturday 7th August
August 7, 2021

Really enjoyed doing this meeting but tough in the aspect of those I really like are skinny at my prices. The start of a new season I’m committing to showing more discipline with prices and units when they don’t reach my price, so be sure to take note of the recommended prices before placing your bets today. Looks a really nice day for racing with the rail out 6m and for the first time in weeks, we are back on a dry(ish) track.
Race 1 – 11:42PM TABTOUCH – WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
8. Megadon – 6. Surf Point – 9. Star Present – 1. Buster Bash
Race 2 – 12:22PM CROWN TOWERS PLATE (1000 METRES)
8. State Of Power – 9. Story Book – 7. Winning Aces – 6. Defending
Race 3 – 1:02PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
4. Wilchino – 3. Requisition – 1. Express Time – 7. City Circle
Wilchino
Just a matter of whether the real Wilchino which we saw last start can turn up again. By far the best horse in the field, returned to form after a big forgive 1st up down the straight at Pinjarra with a soft win that smashed the clock. Should bounce to the breeze here and prove far too strong for these if he holds his form. The even money for a horse that has been susceptible to the odd shocker is skinny and short enough to not get us involved, but at my rated price of $2.20, we can get involved.
5 Units WIN @$2.20+ SP

Race 4 – 1:42PM BERNARD COUCH MEMORIAL HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
4. Vital Flirt – 5. Mr Delegator – 3. Bad Wolf – 1. Aberdeen Queen
Vital Flirt
Love the way he is racing at the moment and can make it 4 in a line in a field that is not particularly more difficult than last start. Can sit midfield for the Pontiff and be the one launching late down the middle of the track. Ginger Baker franked the form by clearing out from them despite not winning in the final race last weekend.
2 Units WIN
Mr Delegator
Saving on the horse that really impressed me last start by the way he was able to do it at both ends. Up on speed, fast run mile, went back to what I thought was the inferior part of the track on the rail and staved them off quite easily in the end. Can roll to the top here and looks really hard to run down (was my initial on-top selection) just very much unders at the current price of $2.90.
1 Unit WIN
Race 5 – 2:18PM MRS MAC’S HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
6. Silkinize – 4. Dia De La Raza – 3. State Attorney – 7. Point Taken
Silkinize
All over Silkinize here but the $2.05 is skinny. The barrier is most important facet here given how well he is jumping at the minute, meaning he doesn’t have to go back to last this time and can position up much closer to main danger Dia De Laz Raza. That last start performance was nothing short of huge from the back on a day where it wasn’t the easiest task to make considerably ground. The slightest of queries being whether positioning up closer takes away from his powerful finishing sprint, but I really don’t think it will be a worry. 1kg swing on Dia De La Raza and really should be turning the tables. Every chance to start in the red, happy to shoulder arms if that is the case.
4 Units WIN @ $2.40+ SP
State Attorney and Point Taken the blowouts.
Race 6 – 3:00PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
3. Notorious One – 10. Double Spice – 6. Giant Leap – 7. London Miss
Double Spice
Really keen Double Spice can run a massive race here. Was initially worried about the 40 days between runs (assuming setback) but on radio SJ came out and said it was an intentional break because he just absolutely flies fresh. 1st up went around from barrier 14 in a 60+ with 57kgs and was only beaten by the barrier in a very fast run race. Gets an absolute dream run from the draw, gets in on the minimum, fresh off the 6 week break and given the top pick still does a lot wrong, I really like his chances on running a big race today.
2 Units WIN
Notorious One
My on-top selection that, as evident by last start, still does a lot wrong despite possessing an abundance of talent. Gets CJP back here which is huge but will have to do it from last, which undoubtedly he can if he runs straight, but that’s a huge if. Plenty of time for him but the price is a little under mine for a horse with his level of quirks.
1 Unit WIN @ $3.30+ SP
Race 7 – 3:35PM SEPPELT WINES HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
9. Chatter Session – 1. Zephyr Queen – 2. Kaptain Kaos – 11. Lonehand Larry
Chatter Session
Double dipping in the SJ Miller stable. Thought his trial was incredibly impressive. Came from last and rounded them up under a stranglehold in very slick time. The draw is very awkward and is every chance to get parked deep given there are other horses drawn inside that could, or are likely, to roll forward, but if Brad Parnham can get some luck in bringing him across, I think he’s going to give a huge sight fresh.
0.5 Units EACH WAY
Race 8 – 4:10PM NGAWYNI STAKES (1400 METRES)
3. Too Close The Sun – 7. Reflectivity – 10. Red Publisher – 2. Missile Launch
Race 9 – 4:50PM CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR CAREER PETER HALL HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
5. Overthought – 9. All Man – 2. Sowar – 3. Aragain
