Belmont Selections & Staking Plan: Saturday 17th July
July 17, 2021

Still racing on a heavy track at Belmont after yet another very wet week in Perth. That being said, this is still a very competitive, exciting card to tuck into this Saturday.
Race 1 – 12:07PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK PLATE (1200 METRES)
5. Forever Autumn – 7. Knot Secret – 1. Storm Commander – 3. Toppa The Mountain
Forever Autumn
Really keen on Forever Autumn here for Trevor Andrews. Last start went around over the 1000m scamper when finishing 5th, 3.1L behind Storm Commander who he meets again here. That may read poorly on paper, but that day he drew awkwardly, was caught extremely wide early trying to find a spot and stayed caught out there for the remainder of the race. Despite the run, really rattled home late into 5th, running the 2nd fastest L200m split of the entire meeting. Here, he’s drawn in 2 for CJP, he jumps well and should be able to land leaders back and get the run of the race. Up to a much more suitable 1200m, I’m really keen on his chances here and confident he can turn the tables on Storm Commander.

Knot Secret is the main danger for mine. Trialled up very nicely at his only look at the trials when running past brilliant debut winner It’sarayday and have heard Steve Wolfe has quite an opinion of him. Drawn nicely in 4 to take up a prominent spot, soft 7/heavy 8 track will be the testing material on debut.
Race 2 – 12:47PM TABTOUCH WESTSPEED PLATINUM HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
2. Bedouin Belle – 1. Express Time – 5. Dark City – 3. Snippy Miss
Race 3 – 1:23PM GLENROY CHAFF HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
4. Comes A Time – 1. Captain Kink – 7. Our Danni – 2. Mankind
Comes A Time
1200m back to 1000m on 7 day back up, which has been a successful formula already thus far this prep, winning at 1200m back to 1000m off 7 days on the 29th May. Amasenus form reads really well and last start showed he definitely gets through the heavy track when coming from a long way off them for 3rd in a 72+ behind Puli and Notorious One in time very fast relative to the track on the day. Maps beautifully on the outside of Our Danni in the 1-1.
1 Unit WIN @ $3.30+
Captain Kink main danger. Fresh off 7 week let up, does best racing fresh. Won fresh last prep at this distance in a 72+ carrying 57kgs and gets in here in a 66+ with 58.5. Won on a soft 6 and gets a nice map where she should be able to cross to the fence which is where his career suggests he definitely does his best racing. Form on paper reads best for this, Bennett riding well, how will he handle the heavy track?

Race 4 – 2:03PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (2100 METRES)
1. Blackwater Bay – 8. All Man – 2. Kallaroo – 5. Sugar Cain
Race 5 – 2:38PM DRUMMOND GOLF BELMONT CLASSIC (2200 METRES)
2. Tena Koutou – 4. Truly Reliable – 6. Baronova – 1. Kerman Rock
Race 6 – 3:15PM PERTH RACING CLUB MEMBERSHIP HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
7. Playing Marika – 6. Fuhrer – 2. Flow – 5. True Attraction
Playing Marika
Was disappointing to see her scratched last week on the 7 day back up when we wanted to be with her but although this is technically up in grade, this race is arguably easier.
She gets in half a kilo off the minimum, is going super and finds a field where the vast majority have huge question marks over their credentials, especially on a very wet track
Think Lucy just slots her in somewhere midfield and gets up and rolling early to put her right into the race.

Fuhrer
Really tough, gutsy horse on his day Fuhrer and his 1000m trial on the 13th July given the Heavy conditions was as impressive as they get in my opinion off a fairly long lay-off. He is an absolute mudder, has had 4 starts on rain affected tracks for 3 wins and they weren’t just wins, they were spankings. As previously touched on the recent trial was super on a Heavy track, and he finds a very favourable map where Craig Staples really doesn’t have a difficult steer, should be able to cruise to the top and dictate proceedings. He has recently changed stable to the very unknown Debra Lewis from Darren McAulliffe, but off his trial seems to have settled in with her as well as they can. Universal Ruler’s crop absolutely love the slop and this guy is no exception, pretty keen he can be going close on resumption, despite being 1st up at the mile.
1 Unit WIN
Race 7 – 3:50PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
3. All Day Session – 1. Brooklyn Pier – 9. Sketta – 8. Queenship
Race 8 – 4:20PM SEACORP HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
9. Real Grace – 10. Rocky Path – 6. Jag The Joker – 1. Agent Jay
Real Grace
Was a hard run to miss last start, was held up badly once they straightened while the well-backed stable mate had all the momentum, but once she got out she powered straight past him. If she’d got out earlier I’m pretty confident she would have won that race, being out of I Am Invincible the really wet track should be to her liking, anticipating Pike lobs her just worse than midfield with cover, out of trouble and gets her out to the middle of the track into clear air. Keen she wins today.

Race 9 – 5:00PM SALINGER HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
4. Aberdeen Queen – 2. The Spruiker – 7. Speedy Miss – 5. Cambist
Aberdeen Queen
Anticipating The Spruiker to go up unequivocally short, and given there is two clear on-toppers here, I’m going to side with the better value of the two in Aberdeen Queen. She’s been given absolutely none at her last two starts, and we’ve seen that she can still be effective settling closer to the speed previously in her career. In an ideal world, Chris rolls forward and tries to tuck in from the gate given there really isn’t a lot of speed engaged here, but even so, worst case they choose to go back and by this time of the day after 8 races already being run, those running down the middle, wider parts of the track, it might be the place to be. She’s a Universal Ruler mare, so she’s going to thrive in the slop, and think if Chris can navigate a route to get her to the best part of the track by this stage of the day and she isn’t spotting The Spruiker many lengths, she can be the one out-sprinting him.
