Atlanta Hawks set franchise record for most points in the first half

It was a record-breaking night for the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday as they scored 85 points in the first half–the most in franchise history according to ESPN. Atlanta scored 42 points in the first quarter and 43 points in the second quarter in a 136-118 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Hawks broke their previous record of 83 points set on December 23, 2020. In this game, Trae Young had 37 points in a 124-104 win over the Chicago Bulls. The Phoenix Suns have the NBA record for most points scored in the first half of a NBA regular season game. They had a staggering 107 first half points in a 173-143 win over the Denver Nuggets on November 10, 1990.
In the Hawks’s win over the Thunder, Trae Young led the Hawks in scoring with 41 points. Five more Hawks players reached double-digits in scoring. Kevin Huerter and Bogdan Bogdanovic each scored 20 points, while De’Andre Hunter scored 19 points, Kevin Knox II had 17 points, and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot scored 10 points.

Young is averaging 28.1 points per game, 9.6 assists per game, and 3.8 rebounds per game. He has a field goal percentage of .459, a three-point percentage of .381, and a free throw percentage of .903. On Wednesday, Young made 13 of 24 field goals, four of 12 three-point shots, and 11 of 12 free throws. He added eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Hawks meanwhile have now won three games in a row, and improved to 39 wins and 37 losses on the season. They are in 10th in the Eastern Conference, and in today’s NBA, that is good enough to qualify for the Play-In Tournament.
