Ascot Tip Sheet & Staking Plan – Kingston Town Classic Day 5th December

Kingston Town Classic day is always a belter card and this is no different here. With the rail in the true position, last time we saw this it was admittedly hard to make ground on the day but it wasn’t impossible, with 2 winners coming from the rear and 7/9 winners sitting in the first 4 in running. The track will be a Good 4, with 20/30kmph south westerlys over their shoulder as they turn for home. Keen to get involved here.

  • Our WA Tipping Results: +20.78 Units (since 01/07/2020)

Race 1 – 12:19PM TOURISM WA TROPHY (1000m)
4. Tunk – 6. Flying Missile – 5. Astrape – 7. Pixie Chix

Tunk comes from a relatively unknown stable, really liked the most recent trial of his. 2nd fastest trial of the morning over the 950m,  was 2.5L off the eventual winner Wuhan Warrior but was given a seriously easy time of it and pulled away from the rest of the chasing pack late essentially under a hold. Had plenty left to give, really nice trial.

Astrape ran a nice 1st up 2nd in the Crystal Slipper, got on the back of the leader Flying Missile, got past him very late. Gets Pike on for McGruddy, looked like he’d appreciate 1200 rather than back to the 1000m? Given the manner which he hit the line. May not get as cushy a run but should improve.

Flying Missile gets the stable’s best jockey so clearly the most preferred here of the Neville Parnham gallopers. Should take it up out in front again and 1000m looks likely to suit him down to the ground and will have improved out of the debut run. Hard to beat from the draw.

Pixie Chix I really liked the way she responded in her most recent trial under riding, really extended nicely. Gets a lovely run from the draw, wouldn’t surprise.

Ultimate Command has also trialled very well in some slick time.

Race 2 – 12:59PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1600m)
11. Bragwell – 3. Phoneme – 8. Mr Delegator – 6. Butterlea Lad

Bragwell

3yo up against the older horses here and has been holding himself in high regard with his recent performances in the Fairetha and the WA Guineas. 6th in the Fairetha when they absolutely walked and caught the eye really hitting the line hard late, before a huge 5th in the WA Guineas from well back in the field in a race dominated by those on-speed. The Wolfe stable is flying, and with a clean run I can’t see anything in this race getting near this guy given the form he is in, with 3yos in on the minimum having a knack for belting the older horses of late. Will take a mighty performance from anything else or pure bad luck to be beating him here. Can take up a spot in running not too far off them from the gate and prove too good.

4 Units WIN

Race 3 – 1:39PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1100m)

Race 4 – 2:19PM AMELIA PARK HANDICAP (2200m)

12. Aragain – 1. Pink And Purple – 5. Adornment – 6. British Bessy

Race 5 – 2:54PM ASCEND SALES – JUNGLE DAWN CLASSIC (1400m)
2. Lonsdale Lady – 10. Tycoon Storm – 6. Serenity Bay – 11. Ration Aly

Lonsdale Lady

What a massive run 1st up in the the Jungle Mist. Was advised before the race she would be ridden upside down and taken back from the wide gate, where she was slow away and disconnected from them last, got going 600m from home when pulling out 4 wide around them and still reeled of the fastest L400/200m splits of the entire meeting. Was never suited but put the writing on the wall she has come back a very promising prospect. Maps to get a beautiful run from a much more favourable draw in the box seat here up to a much more suitable 1400m. A big price, and in my opinion is going to be very hard to beat.

1 Unit EACH WAY

Serenity Bay was another huge 1st up run in the Carbine Club. They weren’t really running on from where she settled on the day but almost pinched it on the post from Neufbosc when getting a lovely trail up to them in that 3 wide moving line. 8 looks arguably more tricky than out wide, given there are faster tactical horses drawn underneath her. Will also be spotting some very good ones lengths on straightening and have to run past them, but still think she is a huge danger here and is going to run a big race with any luck from the gate.

Tycoon Storm was a tad unlucky 1st up over an unsuitable distance in the Jungle Mist, held up for a run at them until passing the 150m when given a great run in transit on the back of the leader till that point, got clear and hit the line well for 3rd. Maps to get an almost identical run here up to her pet trip of 1400m with a 100% strike rate 2nd up. Hard to beat.

Chantrea is a horse that is all class. 6/6 is no mean feat but this is by far her toughest assignment and think she loses the picket fence here 1st up. The map is really sticky from 9 in a field of very talented fillies and mares, and 1st up last prep was only able to get over a field late of what I would call donkeys by a length. The trial was good, but just not a betting proposition here for me, wants further to get to her best trip.

Race 6 – 3:30PM TABTOUCH – SIR ERNEST LEE-STEERE CLASSIC (1400m)
5. Western Empire – 3. Chantorque – 4. Snickerdoodledandy – 12. Smashing

Western Empire

Looks a moral here for mine. Unleashed some huge sectionals in the WA Guineas at only his 3rd start, running the race fastest L600/400/200 in a race dominated by those on the pace. Was an absolute moral beaten in the Fairetha over this trip when 4 deep the entirety without cover and still kept coming at them to be pipped at the line. Should position up in that 3 wide moving line here where Pike can just peel off heels and give him every chance down the middle. From the gate he doesn’t have to be too far off them. Will take a big performance for anything else to hold him out.

5 Units WIN

Chantorque is a horse going from strength to strength for Rusty Stewart at the moment. 3 wins on the bounce and did it as easy as you like last start in the Placid Ark when pulling away from them late after taking the tuck in behind the leader. The rise to 1400m here is probably at the end of her range, but she’s racing like she will get it, but there were some such as Mystical View, who starts $16.00 here taking ground off her late last time round over the 1200m. Will enjoy another plumb run dropping in behind the speed here and be offered the chance to run past them, but does she get 1400m is the question against some other very likeable 3yo types?

Snickerdoodledandy is a very good horse, just don’t like the map and think Western Empire who is arguably more talented is going to get a much better run.

Smashing the blow out chance, was massive in the Guineas from the gate and unlucky the start prior at CL3 level over this trip, can run a race.

Race 7 – 4:10PM GLENROY CHAFF – A.J. SCAHILL STAKES (1400m)

10. Celebrity Queen – 1. Kementari – 9. Flirtini – 4. Valour Road

Race 8 – 4:50PM PEOPLESTART – KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC (1800m)
15. Dom To Shoot – 4. Too Close The Sun – 12. Inspirational Girl – 16. Watch Me Dance

Dom To Shoot

This race has great history for 3 year olds with lightweights who draw alleys, and after highlighting him as a big chance weeks ago if he was to get a start, he has managed to get all 3 of history’s Kingston Town ticks to fall in his favour. Was the run of the race in the WA Guineas when a victim of circumstance, tracked up in that 3 wide line and was just squeezed between horses and knocked around by Kallaroo at the 600m off a very slow tempo when trying to find some room as the horse was trucking, was able to shift out and get going 4 wide before the turn but the bird had flown with those up on the pace, eating ground off them late for a very good 3rd in a race run very much to suit those on-speed. 52kgs on his back, maps to stalk Watch Me Dance’s every move and if Knucks can give him a peach, I think he is going to be the one chiming in at the business end. On-top, keen his chances.

2 Units WIN

Too Close The Sun was a massive run in the Railway when 2nd, had to absorb the pressure of sitting just behind a very hot speed and was still able to kick away on the turn and hold on for 2nd late. Inspirational Girl gets 2kg in her favour from beating him almost 2L but could very much get caught back in the rut from barrier 15 once emergencies come out, while this bloke is enjoying a box seat run just up or in-behind the speed. The extra distance is only going to be further up his alley and despite the negative swing in the weights, he maps to get a much better run than she is and is a big chance here.

Inspirational Girl could just blow them out of the water with the right run if all the luck falls her way, but the barrier is going to make it very interesting. Has always raced like a horse who will only lap up the 1800-2000m sort of region given her late split sectionals but she is going to have to put in a herculean performance to win here from where she likely settles in the run from gate 15 once the emergencies come out. I think she is still the best horse in the race, but can’t get near $2.25 given the race-shape and how she gets in at WFA.

Watch Me Dance just keeps winning at the moment. Handled the track better than the rest of them in the Champion Fillies before getting a beautiful run in transit in the Guineas just on the back of the leader, before peeling out off his back and gunning him down with 100m to go in a race dominated by 1-2 in running. Is another like Dom To Shoot who gets all the history in this race in her favour here, 3 year old, drawn a gate with no weight. Maps to get a similarly perfect run in the box seat for McGruddy here and is going to be very hard to beat with just the 50kgs on her back.

Cup Night is overs at $26.00 for mine, was a huge run in the Railway when running similar figures over the L600m to the eventual winner Inspirational Girl. Isn’t helped out by WFA here but maps to get a very soft run 3 back the fence from gate 1 and with some luck in the straight, could prove to be a bolter at the finish. Racing like 1800m will be no problem at all for him.

Uni Time, Truly Great and Gemma’s Son are knockout hopes.

Race 9 – 5:30PM SEACORP HANDICAP (1200m)
6. Dark Mission – 12. Angelic Miss – 4. Wine Night – 12. Cockyjoy
