Ascot Kingston Town Classic Day Selections & Staking Plan: Saturday 4th December

The last day of the TABTouch Masters brings the Kingston Town Classic over the 1800m on what looks a glorious day for racing. The rail goes out the 8m and with a big easterly in play I’m anticipating for the day to be playing on-speed throughout, although while update affected plays accordingly.

Race 1 – 12:05PM TOURISM WA TROPHY (1000 METRES)

11. Nunes – 1. Revitup – 8. Ciao Luna – 5. Saintorio

Nunes

Despite usually being unenthused by 2yos on debut drawing wide, I have to be having something on Nunes whose trial was one of the best 2yo trials you will see. Sat out the back under O’Donnell,  rounded them up under a double stranglehold (poorly disguised by old Shauny how good she was travelling) and probably could have won the trial by 7 or 8 of she was let go of. Probably has to cop her medicine drawn 8 to try find a spot midfield or just worse than, but this looks to be a proper 2yo horse and expecting support to come for Revitup on a predicted on-pace day. May get a better price late.

1 Unit WIN

Race 2 – 12:45PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Vane Tempest – 4. Mercanto – 6. Vadette De Star – 9. Miss Vasari

Race 3 – 1:25PM DRUMMOND GOLF HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

4. Written Matter – 1. Ziebell – 3. Starfield Impact – 9. Night Voyage

Race 4 – 2:05PM TOUR EDGE HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

2. Black Shadow – 4. Reliable Star – 14. The Roan Ranger – 10. Lady Duckworth

Race 5 – 2:45PM GLENROY CHAFF – A.J. SCAHILL STAKES (1400 METRES)

6. Comfort Me – 5. Red Can Man – 7. Solaia – 3. Massimo

Comfort Me

This horse has had an incredibly preparation. The wins prior to the run in the Railway were a mainstay on Dan O Sullivan’s ratings best runs in Australia nationally. The Railway run, drew barrier 16, managed to work across to find the 1-1 and held off Kissonallforcheeks easily late for 2nd. At set weights and penalties here, he does rise 6kgs at the weights, but this horse doesn’t feel weight, he belted Proconsent (who has since won like Winx) and Bad Wolf (since run back to back black-type 2nds) with 60.5kgs on his back spotting them 4.5 and 3.5kgs respectively. He’s going to put himself in the plum spot 1-1 or potentially even breezing off what looks a moderate tempo and from there, if that Railway run hasn’t taken the wind out of his sails, they’re going to have an incredibly tough time getting past him once he looms when they straighten for home. Deserves this.

3.5 Units WIN

Race 6 – 3:25PM TABTOUCH – SIR ERNEST LEE-STEERE CLASSIC (1400 METRES)

8. Real Danger – 4. Acefire – 3. Stay Safe – 1. Liwa

Real Danger

The horse most advantaged in the field rising to the 1400m but the trade offer is settling last and having to round them all up. Want to see pattern first, if they can run on I’ll be happy to be on. Thought he was by far the run of the race in the Placid Ark from an impossible position and in what looks an extremely messy race, it means Pike can sit out the back and watch it all unfold in front of him. Will update this play accordingly once I get a gauge on track pattern, check back.

1 Unit Win

Acefire

The X factor from the different form. Came from strong maiden win that rated 3L faster than average for the benchmark into a CL1 where they went along at an absolutely cracking tempo, just cruised up into it and absolutely belted them. Drops 3.5kgs at the weights into this grade, can arguably find the front here from 2 (or just in behind stalking the lead at worst) for McGruddy who’s a terrific front-running jockey and if that’s the case I think he’s going to run a seriously big race.

0.5 Units WIN

Race 7 – 4:05PM ASCEND SALES – JUNGLE DAWN CLASSIC (1400 METRES)

5. Sheza Chalmer – 9. Bright Diamond – 3. Chantorque – 1. Bam’s On Fire

Sheza Chalmer

One of the replay-watches out of the Jungle Mist last start, from 11 of 13 settled in a different postcode, with Carbery making an incorrect call to duck back to the inside, where from then on encountered traffic in being badly held up when absolutely bolting from the 200m to essentially the post. Although the traffic encountered by Bright Diamond was similar, after comparing the runs there’s no doubt in my mind Sheza Chalmer’s was the superior of the two. Last preparation these two runners met over this trip, with Sheza Chalmer easily accounting for Bright Diamond and running 2nd in a photo that day to Railway Stakes runner up Comfort Me. Pat Carbery (who hasn’t been my best friend lately) will know Pike is jumping from his inside and try keep him there for as long as possible. I think he should be favourite and really keen with any luck in running he can be taking out this year’s Jungle Dawn for Bernie Miller.

3 Units WIN

Race 8 – 4:45PM DRUMMOND GOLF-KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC (1800 METRES)

7. Western Empire – 1. Regal Power – 6. Notorious One – 10. Searchin Roc’s

Race 9 – 5:20PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

8. Benji’s – 3. Koranis – 1. Downforce – 2. Expressionist

Koranis

Koranis gets into this rate superbly for a very in-form apprentice and think the price is inflated here because of the draw. With Castillo De Lago and Uncle Lino to go quick drawn underneath early, there’s no speed outside of that so if Keshaq is aggressive enough I think he can get him across into the 1-1. If he lands in behind the speed with cover without having to do too much work, it’s completely game on. That Big Screen/Proconsent form stacks up with some of our best gallopers in the state at the moment and held off a very much flying Ginger Flyer in very solid fashion last start. With some luck in running, I’m really keen to play 1×3

0,5 Units WIN/1.5 Units PLACE

Benji’s

Thought Benji’s had the race shot to bits 1st up when just getting run down late without the shades on (might’ve got a bit spacey late there). Has the run under the belt, gets the shades on here and when you look back through his form, he’s run 4th in a Raconteur behind Graceful Girl, Billy Ain’t Silly and She’s God To You and run the fastest L600m of a Belmont Guineas taken out by Sheza Chalmer. Think this race, a very weak 60+, sets up nicely for something on the up with a strong turn of foot and scope to improve, he fits that mould.
