Are the Seattle Seahawks becoming Australia’s NFL team?
June 18, 2025
The 2025 NFL regular season is just over two months away, and the Seattle Seahawks are quietly becoming Australia’s team. Why? Well, there are currently eight Australians in the NFL, of which two are Seahawks.
They are punter Michael Dickson of Sydney, and offensive-lineman Luke Felix-Fualalo of Brisbane. The other six are Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Daniel Faalele of Melbourne, Super Bowl winning and Philadelphia Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata of Sydney, Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Adam Gotsis of Melbourne, Pittsburgh Steelers punter Cameron Johnston of Geelong, Chicago Bears punter Tory Taylor of Melbourne, and New Orleans Saints punter Matthew Hayball of Adelaide.
The popularity and interest in Mailata should be high because of the Eagles’s great success last season. However, the Australian interest in the Seahawks is also there too. That is because Dickson made NFL headlines last week and Felix-Fualalo made NFL headlines this week.
According to Billie Eder of the Sydney Morning Herald on Thursday, Dickson signed a four-year contract extension with the Seahawks worth up to $25.68 million. As a result, he has become the highest paid kicker in the NFL. Last season, Dickson had 76 punts for 3756 yards. That was 49.4 yards per punt.
Felix-Fualalo, meanwhile was signed by the Seahawks on Monday. An offensive tackle, Felix-Fualalo was an undrafted rookie out of the University of Hawaii. He is 6’7″, 318 pounds. In addition to playing at the University of Hawaii, Felix-Fualalo played at the National Collegiate Athletic Association level with the University of Utah, and the American high school level at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California.
