According to Alan Bastable of golf.com on Wednesday, Anthony Kim of Los Angeles, California is joining the LIV Tour. He is reportedly getting an individual wildcard spot at this time and will not be part of a team.
Kim, who goes by A.K. in the golf world, has not been on the PGA Tour since 2012, when he withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship because of tendinitis in his arm according to John Hawkins of Golf Channel. Tendinitis was followed by an Achilles tendon injury. At the time, Kim was only expected to be out of high performance action for a year. However when he did get healthy, he stunningly decided not to play any PGA Tour events even though he was eligible through a medical exemption.
Then in 2014 Hawkins reported that Kim’s agent Clarke Jones told him that Kim was not even golfing recreationally. We once again saw Kim in 2016 competing in various charity competitions, and at the time he was not ready to compete professionally.
It is quite interesting that the LIV Tour has signed Kim on board, and rejected John Daly’s request to join the league. According to Daly, the reason why his request was not accepted is because he was 56 years old. Kim meanwhile is 38 years of age.
In his prime, Kim was ranked as high as sixth on the Official World Golf Rankings. He won the Ryder Cup in 2008 and the Presidents Cup in 2009 with the United States. Kim also won three times on the PGA Tour–the 2008 Wachovia Championship (now Wells Fargo Championship) in Charlotte, the 2008 AT&T National in Washington, D.C, and the 2010 Shell Houston Open.
