49ers running back Christian McCaffrey ties franchise record for most consecutive games with a touchdown
September 23, 2023
The San Francisco 49ers have a perfect record of three wins and zero losses to start the 2023 National Football League regular season, and have outscored their opponents 90-42 in the process. On Thursday night in northern California, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey of Castle Rock, Colorado tied the 49ers franchise record for most consecutive games (regular season and playoffs) with a touchdown in a 30-12 San Francisco win over the New York Giants.
In the 18-point San Francisco win, McCaffrey had 18 carries for 85 yards and one touchdown, along with five catches for 34 receiving yards. If it was not for San Francisco’s questionable play-action calling, McCaffrey should have found pay dirt more.
McCaffrey now has a touchdown in the last six games of the 2022 NFL regular season, the three 49ers games played in the playoffs, and the first three games of the 2023 NFL regular season. In that time he has had nine rushing touchdowns and four receiving touchdowns for 13 touchdowns overall. McCaffrey had one game with multiple touchdowns. That came in a 35-7 49ers win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 11. So far this season, McCaffrey has 60 carries for 353 rushing yards and three touchdowns, along with 11 catches for 70 receiving yards.
The player McCaffrey is tied with for most consecutive games with a touchdown in 49ers history is wide receiver Jerry Rice of Starkville, Mississippi. Rice had a touchdown in 12 straight games for San Francisco in 1987. Also on Thursday, McCaffrey reached 5000 rushing yards in his career (now has 5079). He is the 151st running back in NFL history to accomplish that feat.
