2025 NFL Week 2 Preview: Our Expert Tips & Staking Plan
September 14, 2025

We are back! The new NFL season is underway and we are back with our expert tips that have hopefully served you well in the past.
I will likely be adding some more picks before the games so make sure to check back.
Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
The Lions open their home schedule as 6.5-point favorites against a beleaguered Bears squad. Detroit enters the matchup with a mostly healthy roster, though LT Taylor Decker (shoulder) is questionable after missing much of the week; rookie Giovanni Manu is primed to start if Decker can’t go. Safety Kerby Joseph and CB Terrion Arnold are carrying minor injuries but expected to suit up. Meanwhile, the Bears will be without CB Kyler Gordon (hamstring), and DT Grady Jarrett is also questionable, weakening Chicago’s defensive front. The Bears do get back CB Jaylon Johnson, which helps their secondary, but the disruption up front could be costly.
Trend-wise, home favorites in divisional games cover at a strong clip in Weeks 1-3, especially when the underdog has significant defensive injuries. Detroit’s offensive weapons—Jared Goff feeding Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams—should have lanes opened by Chicago’s interior struggles. Expect Detroit to pull away in the second half and go clear of the number.

Los Angeles Rams @ Tennessee Titans
Los Angeles arrives in Nashville as a 5.5-point favorite, but the value leans toward the Titans +5.5 under the right conditions. The Rams will be missing guard Steve Avila (ankle) and tight end Colby Parkinson (shoulder), while Kevin Dotson is cleared to play. These OL concerns could reduce protection for Matthew Stafford and limit run gaps for the Rams.
Tennessee is dealing with injuries of its own: rookie RT JC Latham and DT T’Vondre Sweat are out, Kevin Winston is doubtful. But they get L’Jarius Sneed back healthy and their secondary looks more competitive. Cam Ward, the No.1 overall pick, takes center stage in his second week, better acclimated.
Trendwise, underdogs of around 5-6 at home in early season tend to cover more often than public realizes. If the Titans clean up pass protection and avoid turnovers, they own enough firepower to hang and even pull an upset.
Pick: Titans +5.5

New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins
The Patriots open as modest underdogs, +2.5 on the road in Miami, but there’s real value on New England here. The Dolphins will be missing several starters: cornerback Storm Duck (ankle), OT Austin Jackson (toe), DT Benito Jones (oblique), and tight end Darren Waller (hip), all ruled out for this game. Meanwhile, the Patriots are without CB Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) and DE Keion White (illness), though their depth in the secondary may hold up under pressure. Defensive coordinator Terrell Williams is unavailable for New England, with Zak Kuhr stepping in, which could lead to schematic wrinkles that favor a disciplined offense.
Drake Maye and company showed flashes in Week 1, particularly in the red zone, and may benefit from Miami’s weakened pass rush and OL injuries. History shows that small spreads in divisional matchups tend to get covered by resilient road teams.
Pick: Patriots +2.5

New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys welcome the Giants to AT&T Stadium as 6-point favorites, and this matchup lines up favorable for Dallas to cover — maybe even win by two scores. New York enters Week 2 with major concerns. Left tackle Andrew Thomas is doubtful with a foot/ankle issue, weakening pass protection. The Giants also lost leading tackler Micah McFadden for significant time with a foot injury, denting their run defense. On the flip side, Dallas is missing cornerback DaRon Bland, sidelined with a foot injury, but their offense under Dak Prescott remains elite. Prescott had some drops and miscues in the opener, but history is on his side: he’s 7-1 at home vs. the Giants.
Trend-wise, home favorites of this size in rivalry/division games cover often; and the Giants’ offense has struggled to score while Dallas’ defense, even with gaps, should limit explosive plays. With New York’s vulnerabilities and Dallas needing a bounce-back, expect a convincing performance from the Cowboys at home.
Pick: Cowboys −6

Denver Broncos @ Indianapolis Colts
Denver travels to Lucas Oil Stadium as a narrow 2-point favorite, but bettors should like the value on the Broncos covering. Injuries are shaping this game: Denver will be without LB Dre Greenlaw (quad), and TE Nate Adkins (ankle) is ruled out. Full return of Evan Engram tightens up their tight-end group, offering more matchup options in the red zone. The Colts’ defense enters with serious holes — CBs Charvarius Ward and Jaylon Jones are both out, likely forcing inexperienced backups into critical roles. While Indy’s offense showed promise in Week 1 under Daniel Jones and breakout rookie TE Tyler Warren, defensive vulnerabilities and a shaky run-stop unit could make them one-dimensional. Denver has historically performed well in tight road games early in the season. If their OL gives enough time and Philly Engram can find space in secondary mismatch, the Broncos are in line to make this a game.
Pick: Broncos −2
