2023 Tennessee Titans Projected Finish, Key Signings & Fantasy Stars

In the 31st of a 32-part series, we are featuring all National Football League teams with a prediction of where each team will finish within their division, key off-season acquisitions and their top fantasy stars. Here are the Tennessee Titans.

Key Off Season Acquisitions

The Titans had five key free agent signings in the offseason. They came to terms with offensive tackle Andre Dillard of Woodinville, Washington to a three-year deal worth $29 million, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins of Central, South Carolina to a two-year deal worth $26 million,  linebacker Arden Key of Atlanta, Georgia to a three-year deal worth $21 million, offensive tackle Daniel Brunskill of San Diego, California to a two-year deal worth $5.5 million, and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair of Tampa, Florida to a one-year deal worth $5 million.

Dillard is joining his second NFL team. He played the last three years with the Philadelphia Eagles. Hopkins is joining his third NFL team. He previously played seven seasons with the Houston Texans from 2013 to 2019, and the last three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals from 2020 to 2022. This past season, Hopkins had 64 catches for 717 yards and three touchdowns. He did not start the season with Arizona as he was suspended six games for violating the NFL’s drug policy.

Key is joining his fourth NFL team. He previously played with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders from 2018 to 2020, the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, and the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022. This past season in north Florida, Key had 27 combined tackles (16 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles), five tackles for a loss, 15 quarterback hits, 4.5 sacks, two pass deflections and one fumble recovery. The fumble recovery came in a 36-22 Jaguars win over the Tennessee Titans on December 11.

Brunskill is joining his second NFL team. He previously played four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Brunskill had one solo tackle in 2022. Al-Shaair also came to the Titans after four years with San Francisco. In 2022, he had 44 combined tackles (24 assisted tackles and 20 solo tackles), one tackle for a loss, one quarterback hit, and one fumble recovery for five yards. The fumble recovery, tackle for a loss and quarterback hit came in 49ers wins. The fumble recovery came in a 35-7 49ers win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 11. The tackle for a loss came in a 21-13 49ers win over the Seattle Seahawks on December 15. The quarterback hit came in a 38-13 49ers win over the Arizona Cardinals on January 8.

The Titans also acquired kicker Nick Folk of Los Angeles, California in a deal with the New England Patriots on August 29. The veteran kicker is joining his fifth NFL team after playing three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys (2007 to 2009), seven seasons with the New York Jets (2010 to 2016), one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2017), and four seasons with the New England Patriots (2019 to 2022). This past season, Folk made 32 of 37 field goals and 32 of 35 converts.

Fantasy Stars

Running back Derrick Henry of Yulee, Florida had the best season in fantasy among running backs last year. He had 1538 rushing yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, and 33 catches for 398 receiving yards. Folk meanwhile is ranked eighth in fantasy among kickers and should have better statistics than last season as Tennessee is in a warmer climate than Foxboro.

Projected Finish

The Titans are clearly the second best team in the AFC South. They are behind the Jacksonville Jaguars and ahead of the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts. Despite the second place finish, a playoff spot may be too difficult this year for the Titans to achieve.
