For the first time in Wyndham Clark’s golf career, he is a PGA Tour champion. On Sunday, he defeated fellow American and Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California by four strokes after shooting a four-round score of -19 to win the 2023 Wyndham Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Clark opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of four-under-par 67. That was followed by a third round score of eight-under-par and a fourth round score of three-under-par 68.
During the four rounds of golf, Clark had one eagle. That came on the seventh hole in round two on a par five that was 533 yards from the tee shot to the cup. In the third round, Clark had eight birdies and zero bogeys. Four of his birdies came on the front nine, and the other four birdies came on the back nine.
Clark was one of two golfers to be in the 60s in every round. The other was Michael Kim of San Diego who finished in seventh place at -10. Kim had two rounds of three-under-par 68 (rounds one and two) and two rounds of two-under-par 69 (rounds three and four).
A native of Denver, Colorado, Clark has a connection to another sports super star. According to heavy.com, he went to the same high school as San Francisco 49ers running back and two-time Pro Bowler Christian McCaffrey. Clark and McCafffrey both attended Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. It should be noted however that Clark is 29 years of age, while McCaffrey is 26 years old.
