The Washington Nationals have won three of their first four games in the 2026 MLB regular season, and are tied with the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins and New York Mets for first place in the National League East.
A major reason why the Nationals are are in a first place logjam is because of the tremendous offensive production of centerfielder Joey Wiemer of Sylvania, Ohio. You could say that Wiemer’s start to the season was simply perfect. According to Matt Snyder of CBS Sports, Wiemer reached base safely in his first 10 plate appearances. That tied the MLB record previously set by Carlos Delgado of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, who accomplished the feat with the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2002 MLB regular season.
Wiemer began the streak on Thursday, when he had one home run, two singles and a walk in a 10-4 Nationals win over the Chicago Cubs. That was followed by one single, one triple, one home run and one walk on Sunday in a 6-3 Nationals win over the Cubs on Sunday, before two singles on Monday before recording his first out of the season (a ground out to the pitcher) in a dominant 13-2 Nationals win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
So far this season, Wiemer has been great statistically. He leads the National League with eight hits and 16 total bases, and the Major Leagues with an .800 batting average, .846 on base percentage and 1.600 slugging percentage. One must also realize that Wiemer has accomplished this remarkable feat batting ninth in the Nationals lineup.
