Weekend Wrap: The Biggest Moments Of The Weekend’s Sport
January 21, 2019
In this segment, we bring you a look at the biggest sporting moments of the past weekend.
This weekend saw tight finishes and underdogs triumph.
NFL Conference Championship Games
The New Orlean Saints played the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game on the weekend.
The Saints were favoured to get the win, and started off on the right track, leading 13-0 at quarter time.
A Ram’s field goal and a Todd Gurley touchdown saw the scores 13-10 at the half.
With scores level 20-20 in the final minutes of the fourth, Saints quarterback Drew Brees attempted a throw to wide receiver Tommylee Lewis.
The pass was incomplete as Ram’s defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman took out Lewis before the ball arrived.
Despite the obvious pass interference, there was no flag on the field, leaving the Saints and their fans stunned.
The Rams went on to win 26-23 in overtime, as kicker Greg Zuerlain made a 57 yard field goal.
In the AFC Championship match, the New England Patriots were leading 14-0 at the half, before a resurgent Kansas City Chiefs sent the match to overtime, with scores locked at 31-31.
The Patriots silenced the home crowd through a Rex Burkhead touchdown to win the match.

UFC Fight Night 143
32 seconds was all Henry Cejudo needed to knock out TJ Dillashaw and retain the UFC’s flyweight belt.
Not only did this superfight involve two champions, but it seemingly had the future of the flyweight division depending on the outcome.
With many expecting Dillashaw to win, and the division to be scrapped shortly after, Dana White’s plans have likely been thrown into disarray.
White called the stoppage “horrible,” and was of the same opinion as Dillashaw, that the fight was ended too early by the ref.
On the preliminary card, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone caught Conor McGregor’s attention.
‘The Notorious’ tweeted that he’d fight Cowboy after his impressive win.

Danielle Collins – Giant Killer
The Australian Open continued to provide sporting action over the weekend.
One storyline coming out of the event, is that of American Danielle Collins.
Collins had never won a Grand Slam match before, but now finds herself headed into the quarterfinals.
After discarding 14th seed Julia Gorges in the opening round, Collins took out fellow American Sachia Vickery in straight sets.
Collins went on to beat 19th seed Caroline Garcia, 6-3, 6-2.
Her most impressive moment of her fairytale run, was her last match, where she defeated the 2nd seed Angelique Kerber 6-0, 6-2.
Collins must now face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Wolves vs Leicester
Wolverhampton and Leicester played a 7 goal edge-of-your seat match over the weekend.
Diogo Jota scored his first goal of the match just four minutes in, before Ryan Bennett made it 2-0 to the Wolves after 12 minutes.
Down at the break, Leicester bounced back and scored two goals in the first six minutes of the second half to level the score.
Despite Jota putting the Wolves back in front with his second goal, an 87th minute equaliser for Leicester looked set for the match to end in a draw.
That was until Jota capped off his hat trick with a 93rd minute injury time goal, to give Wolverhampton the 4-3 win.
Wolves Manager Nuno Espirito Santo was sent off for running onto the pitch to celebrate the late goal, but you can’t blame him for being excited.
