Weekend Wrap: The Best Of The Weekend’s Sport
December 24, 2018
In this segment, we bring you a look at the biggest sporting moments of the past weekend.
This weekend provided upsets, goals-galore and last minute heroics.
Crystal Palace vs Man City
Crystal Palace can celebrate Christmas a bit early, after getting a win over Manchester City on the weekend.
Palace responded swiftly to Ilkay Gundogan’s 27th minute opener, by netting two quick goals in the 33rd and 35th minute.
The second goal for Palace coming from an astonishing shot by Andros Townsend.
A penalty after halftime gave Palace a 3-1 advantage, and while City struck one back late, it wasn’t enough.
Liverpool will be full of Christmas cheer too, with their win Wolverhampton providing a 4 point buffer between them and second place City.
Hail Mary
A high school game of football has made headlines around the world, after an incredible last play.
North Shore High School were playing Duncanville in the Texas state championship game at AT&T Stadium over the weekend.
With Duncanville up 36-35 with three seconds on the clock, North Shore had one last play, and quarterback Dematrius Davis produced a truly remarkable 45 yard Hail Mary pass that receiver A.J. Carter managed to hold onto in the corner of the endzone.
The miraculous play had North Shore players in raptures and left Duncanville stunned.
Tottenham vs Everton
Eight goals were scored in what was a goal-fest of a match between Tottenham and Everton over the weekend.
While Everton opened the scoring, Tottenham’s Son capitalised on a defensive mix-up to score into an open goal from the edge of the box.
Another two goals before the end of the half had Tottenham up 3-1.
Things kicked off at a similar pace in the second half, with Eriksen hitting the ball perfectly from outside the box in the 48th minute.
An additional two goals for Tottenham, and one from Everton had the scoreline end 6-2.
The win has Tottenham only two points behind Manchester City on the table.
Elsewhere, Manchester United also bagged a haul of goals, getting a 5-1 win over Cardiff City.
The win follows former United manager Jose Mourinho’s axing by the club.
Tim Ludeman Impressions
The Big Bash provided loads of entertainment over the weekend.
One memorable moment in the T20 league came without bat or ball though.
The Melbourne Renegades’ wicket-keeper Tim Ludeman provided even more entertainment for viewers with his impressions during the game with the Adelaide Strikers.
Mic’d up during the match, Ludeman channeled the late and great cricket commentators, Richie Benaud and Tony Greig.
The spot-on impressions had the commentary team in hysterics.
Ludeman has previously impersonated David Attenborough and former Prime Minister John Howard.
