The 2022 NBA Finals are now deadlocked at two games apiece. On Friday at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics 107-97.
The first three quarters were relatively even. The Warriors had the slim 79-78 lead after 36 minutes before the Warriors took over in the final quarter. During the last 12 minutes, Golden State outscored Boston 28-19. You could make the argument that the fourth game of the series was a lot like the first and third games where the Celtics dominated the fourth quarter to win the game.
On Friday, Stephen Curry was the best player on the court. The Warriors’ star point guard came up huge, recording an impressive double double, as he had 43 points and 10 rebounds. In the process at age 34 years and 88 days, Curry became the second oldest player in NBA Finals history to have a game with 40 points and 10 rebounds, and the oldest player to accomplish the feat in his team’s victory. The oldest was LeBron James, who had 40 points and 13 rebounds in a 111-108 Los Angeles Lakers loss to the Miami Heat on October 9, 2020 in game five of the NBA Finals in the Orlando bubble. James was 35 years and 284 days old.
What we also saw on Friday was another impressive double double. Andrew Wiggins had 17 points and 16 rebounds. Two more Warriors players reached double digits in scoring. Klay Thompson had 18 points and Jordan Poole had 14 points coming off the bench. Kevon Looney meanwhile reached double digits in rebounds with 11. Game five is back in San Francisco on Monday.
