Serena Williams has decided to choose a familiar teammate as her doubles partner for Wimbledon next month. For the third tennis major of the 2026 season, Serena Williams will be playing alongside her sister, Venus Williams, according to Andrew Dampf of the Associated Press.
Venus Williams will be the third doubles partner for Serena since she made her professional tennis comeback this month. Serena teamed up with Victoria Mboko of Canada at the Queen’s Club, and then Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in Berlin. Serena needed to make a change to Muchova when Mboko had a serious medial collateral ligament injury while playing singles in Queen’s against Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic.
Let’s not kid ourselves. As long as Venus was to play at Wimbledon, there was a strong likelihood that the Williams sisters would be united. Serena and Venus have won 14 grand slam titles together in women’s doubles. They united to win the 1999 and 2009 United States Open, the 1999 and 2010 French Open, the 2000, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016 Wimbledon titles, and the 2001, 2003, 2009, and 2010 Australian Open titles. When it comes to grand slam doubles finals, the Williams sisters have a great record. Their winning percentage is a remarkable 100%.
They have also won three Olympic gold medals in women’s doubles tennis together. They struck gold at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
In assessing Serena and Venus’s chances of winning the 2026 Wimbledon women’s doubles titles, I have doubts for two reasons. The first is that Serena and Venus have not won a women’s doubles grand slam since Wimbledon a decade ago, and the fact that Venus has been dealing with a variety of health issues herself at age 46.
