The United States have dominated the action at the 2022 Presidents Cup after the first two days of the competition. On Friday in four ball action, the United States won four of five matches, just like they did in foursome action on Thursday. As a result, the United States leads the International Team 8-2.

One performance that deserves notable recognition was of two-time major champion Justin Thomas of Louisville, Kentucky. Thomas, who won the 2017 PGA Championship and 2022 PGA Championship, became the first golfer ever to win his first five Presidents Cup four ball matches. On Friday, he teamed up with Jordan Spieth to beat the Australian duo of Adam Scott and Cameron Davis 2&1.

At the 2017 Presidents Cup in Jersey City, New Jersey, Thomas teamed up with Rickie Fowler of Murrieta, California to beat the South African duo of Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace 3&2, and then with Daniel Berger of Plantation, Florida to beat Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuela and Hideki Matsuyama of Japan 3&2. At the 2019 Presidents Cup in Melbourne, Thomas teamed up with Tiger Woods to beat Australia’s Marc Leishman and Chile’s Joaquin Niemann 4&3, and then teamed up with Fowler to beat Leishman and China’s Haotong Li 3&2.

The United States won three other fourball matches on Friday. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele beat Matsuyama and Joo-hyung Kim of South Korea 3&2, and Billy Horschel of Grant, Florida and Max Homa of Burbank, California beat the Canadian duo of Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith 1 up. The other two matches on Friday ended in ties.

The six-point American lead is tied for the largest lead the United States has ever had at the Presidents Cup. They also had a 8-2 lead in 2017.
