Trial Review: Horses To Follow From The Trials This Past Week 4/12

Dean Watling has been in form with his trial form recently and is back again to give us a list of horses to follow from the trials over the last week.

Battleground
  • Randwick 2/12/19
  • Trial – 1038m
  • Time – Overall: 1.03.62 L600: 35.80

I loved the progression of this Snitzel colt between the two trials leading into this prep. Tells me he is a very progressive type. Looked relaxed and comfortable in his stride, responded super when asked for an effort 150m out, closing the trial off smartly, L600 – 35.80.

Love the recipe of the second trial at 1038m into a debut, normally pays off.

Strike
  • Randwick 2/12/19
  • Trial – 900m
  • Time – Overall: 54.63 L600: 35.00

Very smart trial by this Snowden trained Spirit Of Boom colt. Easy debut kill when backed off the map at Eagle Farm. Let up 7 weeks now being aimed at the 2yo Magic Millions where his a $15 chance.

Sat off the leaders and cruised past them arrogantly at the 100m under no effort. He looks to be growing with every step out and can improve heavily on the first start. One to watch leading into the Autumn.

Arakwal
  • Randwick 2/12/119
  • Trial – 900m
  • Time – Overall: 55.60 L600: 35.10

Disappointing first prep but thinking there was an issue there. Was very impressed by this Waller-trained 3yo fillies first trial this prep. Loved the way she closed in the trial, wasn’t anything special but in comparison to the other horses in the trial she did is much easier.

She looked to settle and be within herself here and close off under command. Excited to see her second trial as it will be much improved. Can go places this prep.
