Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 9/9

Quality spring contenders continued to roll out at Rosehill on Tuesday, & our analyst has black booked an Everest contender and a couple from the Bjorn Baker yard.

Briasa

The Hawkes grey looks to be tracking along nicely towards his first Everest campaign after an effortless 2.8L trial win at Rosehill. He jumped from the outside gate and showed terrific natural speed to build a 3L lead at the turn. He wasn’t given a shake-up at all to the line but still managed to record a 33.28s final 600m for the 1000m. It doesn’t exactly warrant confidence in betting into a strong Everest, but he is a major player in the G2 Shorts at Randwick in 2 Saturdays’ time.

Our Queen

The 5-year-old mare was a real eye-catcher in her first prep for new trainer Bjorn Baker. She found the lead without being asked to do much and bolted away for a 5.1L victory. She looks ready to perform in BM72-78 company 1st up.

Polymnia

The Adrian Knox runner-up was terrific, settling at the rear and coming across heel after straightening before letting down strongly to finish 2.6L 4th behind the speedy Oh Diamond Lil. She will be looking for ground so she may not be a 1st up play but certainly one to watch for getting out to 1600m+.

Dance To The Boom

Another lightly raced Baker mare that was a big winner at the Rosehill trials. I liked the way she jumped cleanly from the wide gate but was dragged back to midfield before letting down really strongly to stride away for a 4.5L win. The Gosford Guineas winner looks capable of picking up a Listed quality race 1st up.
