Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 7/8

The spring contenders continued to front up at the Randwick trials this Thursday. Our analyst has black booked a pair of European imports that looks set for massive 2nd Aus preps and a Freedman 3yo that is absolutely flying.

Vauban

The high profile European import was a G3 Sky High winner in his first run for the Waterhouse/Bott yard before running 3rd in the G1 Tancred. He looks to be back to some of his top notch Euro form after leading all the way for a 0.2L win over Via Sistina in his 1000m trial. He will likely be aimed at the Cups but he has to be considered wherever he lands 1st up after what we saw last prep and in that fantastic trial.

Birdman

The Waller import backed up his eye-catching 2.2L 3rd in a Rosehill trial with a fantastic 0.2L win where he was a long way off on the turn and charged home the final 200m to claim the win. He is another European import that looks set to thrive in his 2nd Aus prep.

Pallaton

The Freedman colt looks absolutely airborne. He backed up a 0.4L Randwick trial win with an even more impressive 1.3L win over 1044m. He settled midfield 3 and 4 wide without cover and claimed the lead shortly after straightening before powering away to win eased down. The time was the quickest of the morning over that trip, significantly faster than some of the older horses. He looks a bet in what’s going to be a hot Listed Rosebud in a fortnight.
