Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 6/1

Top quality autumn contenders continued to roll out at Warwick Farm and Canterbury trials this week.

Fierce

The Hawkes 3yo backed up an impressive 1.1L trial win at Warwick Farm a week ago with a brilliant 0.3L win at the same track. He settled out the back of a 9 horse field and was still last at the top of the straight before making a brilliant run along the inside to score on the line. He looks ready to perform 1st up.

Stefi Magnetica

The Stradbroke, Doncaster and Invitation winner looks to be trucking along as well as ever after a 0.6L 2nd to Shangri La Boy over 1107m at Canterbury. She was positive out of the gates behind the Waterhouse/Bott colt setting a strong tempo. She was 3L off him at the top of the straight and made solid ground under easy riding but motored through the line and for 200m past the post. She looks likely to be very tough to beat once she gets out to 1400m-1600m.

Linebacker

The O’Shea & Charlton 4yo looks to be in for a big prep after injury interrupted his spring campaign before he went to win the Silver Eagle by 2.6L. He was a stride slow out of the gates in his 902m return trial at Canterbury. He worked his way around the field to settle 3rd and cruised to the line under a strong hold from Lloyd to finish 1.2L 2nd.

Rantan

It was a stylish 3L 902m Canterbury trial win for the Ron Quinton trained mare. She settled in behind the undefeated Bev’s Nine and ambled up to him and the turn before powering away under hands and heels riding. The 54.54s time was quick for the morning. She looks to have gone to another level and I would love to see her lob in midweek company 1st up.

Beadman

There was a lot to like about the hulking Snitzel colts 902m trial at Canterbury. J Mac had him settled him midfield on the fence. He had to work his way across heels at the top of the straight and when he saw clear running at the 200m he trucked through the line under a strong hold. He is sure to have a nice 3yo race in him over the autumn.
