Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 5/3

There were full cards of Sydney trials at Warwick Farm and Randwick this week. Our analyst has black booked a trio of runners that looks ready to make an impact in the autumn.Ā

Long Legs

The speedy Portelli filly was terrificĀ  in her 2nd career prep scoring a 1.8L win at Rosehill resuming before finishing 3rd in the G3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle. Her return trial was outstanding sitting outside the lead and forging away for a 1.2L win eased down with Vauban under the whip back in 2nd. She looks ready to break through in feature company over the autumn.Ā

The Price & Kent Victorian caught the eye at the trials for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. He jumped only fairly from the outside gate and worked his way around the field in a carve a copy of his 1030m Rosehill trial 10 days ago but he let down a lot stronger this time to go on with it for a 4L win. He only has 1 win on his record from 6 1st up attempts but we have never seen him this wound up. He demands serious consideration wherever the target 1st up.

The G2 Millie Fox runner-up was a real eye-catcher in her tick over trial at Randwick. J Mac settled her a pair forward of midfield and whilst she wasn’t asked to do much at the top of the straight, she really jumped out of the ground the final 200m to finish 1.2L 2nd to the speedy Perfumist. I love the intent shown with the trial between 1st and 2nd up runs, which confirms the theory that she was well underdone when looming up as the winner before knocking up the final furlong in the Millie Fox. Keen to be with her 2nd up.Ā
