Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 2/9

Tuesday’s Randwick trials saw more potential spring stars roll out. Our analyst has picked out a Slipper place getter that looks to be tracking nicely and a trio of runners that look ready to perform early in their campaigns.

Tempted

After an unlucky 3rd in this year’s Slipper, Godolphin filly Tempted looks to have furnished nicely as a 3yo after a hard-held 0.07L 2nd in her Randwick trial. She was 3-4L off them on the turn and showed nice acceleration to pick them up quickly without being asked to do much by J Mac. She looks on track to be a major player in the big 3yo races this season.

Miss Freelove

The Snowden filly looks to have returned in improved order after settling behind a fast leader and closing with some strong sectionals. She put a big gap on the 3rd horse and chewed into the big lead of Champagne Hero to finish 2.5L 2nd.

Strait Acer

The Headwater 6yo looks to be going as well as ever for his new O’Shea & Charlton team after an impressive 0.4L trial win. He sat back off the leader and rounded it up under a lot less pressure with big gaps back through a quality field.

Getafix

The O’Shea & Charlton 4yo has always shown above average ability but finally looks to be switching on between the ears after a big 5L win at Kensington back in June before beating Cool Jakey and It’s a Knockout in a strong winter BM88. His return trial was a real eye-catcher settling well back in the field and trucking to the line under a strong hold to finish 0.6L 2nd to G3 Newcastle Stakes winner Sandpaper. He will bring great residual fitness into this spring campaign and looks like being a great lightweight chance in whatever feature races they set him for.
