Trial Review: Horses That Caught The Eye At The Trials This Week 19/8

Two big mornings of Sydney trials at Canterbury on Monday and Randwick on Tuesday. Our analyst has picked out a quartet of runners that look ready to perform in the early spring races, headlined by a 2x G1 winner.

Stefi Magnetica

The G1 Stradbroke and G1 Doncaster winner looks to be ticking along nicely after a really forward showing when 0.4L 2nd to Converge in a Canterbury trial over 1100m. She sprung out of the gates much better than she normally does and found herself in a forward position. Converge put a couple of length gap on her but he final 100m was fantastic and she even went past a few strides past the post. She looks well on track to be competitive in some big G1s over the spring.

King of Pop

The Black Opal winner really caught the eye charging through the line to finish 1.4L 2nd to tearaway leader Bonita Queen with the 3rd horse a further 5.2L away. The turn of foot she showed was hard to miss and he looks a top 3yo contender for the spring.

Rivellino

The Kris Lees 3yo sat 3-wide behind the speed and was 4-wide no cover when turning for home. He could’ve been forgiven for tiring late given the extra work he had done but instead produced a slick final 200m and was strong 100m past the winning post to finish 2.3L 3rd to G1 winning sprinter Briasa. He is another that 3yo that looks ready to be competitive in races like the San Domenico and Golden Rose.

Gerringong

The Waterhouse/Bott mare jumped, lead and cruised to the line to record a 3.1L win carrying what would have to of been a significantly heavier weight with Rawiller on board. The time was 0.77s quicker than the next fastest 1100m trial on the morning.
