Top Five Storylines from Week 12 of the 2022 NFL season

The 12th week of the 2022 National Football League regular season is now in the books. Here are five very intriguing storylines from the week that was.

5) Cincinnati Bengals defensive line deserves high praise.

We all know how great the Cincinnati Bengals offense can be led by quarterback Joe Burrow, running back Joe Mixon, and a wide receiving group of Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase. However on Sunday it was the Bengals defense that played at a high level as they limited Tennessee Titans star running back Derrick Henry to only 38 rushing yards in a 20-16 Cincinnati win.

4) Saints are shutout for the first time in 20 years.

New Orleans had a streak of 332 games without being shutout. That streak, which was the longest active streak in the NFL, came to an end on Sunday when they were beaten 13-0 by the San Francisco 49ers. Ironically, it was the 49ers who last shutout New Orleans, 38-0, on January 6, 2002.

3) Jaguars and Chargers win via a two-point conversion.

Late in their games, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers both had touchdowns and could have forced overtime with a convert. Instead they each went for the two-point conversion and won the game. In Jacksonville, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed a two-yard pass to Zay Jones in a 28-27 Jacksonville win over the Baltimore Ravens. Then in Glendale, Justin Herbert had a two-yard completion to tight end Gerald Everett in a 25-24 Chargers win over the Arizona Cardinals.

2) Josh Jacobs sets Raiders record for most yards from scrimmage in one game.

It was a glorious Sunday afternoon for Raiders running back Josh Jacobs in Seattle. The native of Tulsa, Oklahoma had 229 rushing yards and 74 receiving yards with two touchdowns. Jacobs’s 303 yards from scrimmage set a Raiders franchise record in a 40-34 overtime win over the Seattle Seahawks. In fact, Jacobs had the game-winning touchdown in the extra period on an 86 yard rush.

1) Jalen Hurts has a monster first half.

On Sunday night, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts became the first quarterback in NFL history to have 125 yards passing and 125 yards rushing in the first half. He had 128 yards passing and 126 yards rushing in a 40-33 Philadelphia Eagles win over the Green Bay Packers. Hurts finished the game with 153 yards passing and 157 yards rushing. The 157 yards rushing broke a single-game Eagles record for a quarterback. Michael Vick had the previous record as he had 130 rushing yards in a 38-31 Eagles win over the New York Giants on December 19, 2010.
