According to John Breech of CBS Sports on Thursday, former Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern of Grand Island, New York retired at the age of 37. Kern spent 15 seasons punting in the National Football League with the Denver Broncos (2008 to 2009), the Tennessee Titans (2009 to 2021), and the Philadelphia Eagles (2022).

Kern had 1006 career punts for 46136 yards. He averaged 45.9 yards per punt. Kern’s 42333 punting yards with the Titans is an all-time franchise record.

For three consecutive seasons from 2017 to 2019, Kern was selected to the Pro Bowl. He averaged a career high 49.7 yards per punt in 2017. That was followed by back-to-back years of 47.1 yards per punt in 2018 and 2019.

On December 28, 2014, Kern had the longest punt of his National Football League career. It was for 79 yards and came in a 27-10 Titans loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The 79-yard punt was also the longest punt during the 2014 NFL season, and tied Jim Norton of Glendale, California for the longest punt in the history of the Tennessee Titans/Houston Oilers franchise. Norton had a 79-yard punt in the 1964 NFL season.

Kern initially signed with the Broncos on April 29, 2008 as he was undrafted. He won the Broncos starting job as a rookie but was not with Denver long, as he was put on waivers during the 2009 NFL season. Kern then signed with the Titans two days later and was with Tennessee for the next 13 years.

This past season, Kern was released by Tennessee prior to the start of the year. He then joined the Eagles when Australian native Arynn Siposs injured his ankle in week 14. Siposs then returned for the Super Bowl.
