Tigers hope re-signing carrot convinces Galvin to drop request for release
June 10, 2024
The Wests Tigers have taken a huge extension promise to breakout five-eighth Lachlan Galvin’s management team, with one demand—he stops agitating for an early release from his Concord playing deal.
The upgrade offer comes after Galvin, still just 18, demanded a release from the last two years of his contract following a 54-12 slaughter at the hands of the St George Illawarra Dragons on Friday. This isn’t the first time he’s put in these demands either, with the young gun’s brokers putting in a similar request before the season began.

The Tigers’ answer has been to table a new, upgraded deal for the youngster. Galvin’s manager Isaac Moses is now mulling over the surprise new deal, which would keep the 18-year-old star in orange and black well beyond 2027.
Wests are particularly eager to keep Galvin to pair him with Jarome Luai next year.
There reason this has all blown up again in the last week or so is because Galvin has been playing with a hand injury that’s required pain-killing injections. Moses only found out about this days before the Dragons game and blew up at the Tigers coaching team.
Under-fire new coach Benji Marshall is letting Galvin rest this weekend when Wests face the Gold Coast Titans, but the youngster’s agent thinks it was already the wrong move to make him play.
The Sporting Base has yet to hear whether Galvin will take up the offer, but considering he’s been antagonising to leave the club for some time there’s every chance he simply turns the new contract down. Sources close to the 18-year-old have said he wants to join the Panthers to replace Luai and play alongside Nathan Cleary long-term.

The Tigers did just let Isaiah Papali’i leave early to join the Panthers but are fighting to keep Stefano Utoikamanu, tabling a five-year $4 million offer in a bid to keep him for the future.
