The Plunge’s Saturday Review: Horses You Must Follow From Rosehill 30/1

A 2yo looking to go one better with a run under its’ belt and a Godolphin filly who was strong late in open company are the horses to follow from Rosehill.

The Plunge’s Service Results:
  • +34.7 units of profit since December
  • 21 bets: 7 wins /7 placings

Home Affairs

  • Race 3
  • Distance 1100m
  • G3 2yo Handicap

There’s no doubt Home Affairs was a touch disappointing getting pipped on the line on debut as favourite and I am aware that this may not bode well with followers of this subscription as I did tip him. However, I do believe there will be an opportunity to break even on this son of I Am Invincible.

At the 300m mark he showed great acceleration to skip away from the field but it only lasted 200m. Zethus finished strong to win by the smallest of margins. After only one trial, which is unusual for Waller trained 2yos suggesting they believed in his raw ability, Home Affairs clearly tired late.

When To Bet

I expect him to be stronger through the line with more fitness under his belt next start, which I assume will be the Pierro Stakes in a fortnight. Winning on Saturday would’ve cost him a 3kg penalty for that race so if he meets Zethus there he will be much better off at the weights. I am also confident he will be better on top on the ground, as most I Am Invincible horses are.

Thermosphere

  • Race 9
  • Distance 1200m
  • Class BM 88 No Restrictions

Thermosphere was an interesting runner taking on the older boys in the last on Saturday after she had been competitive against the best 3yo fillies in the country last preparation.

In a race dominated by on paced runners, Thermosphere produced an eye-catching run late to finish 0.4L behind Big Parade.

When To Bet

I’m certain James Cummings will now be looking at the Light Fingers Stakes in a fortnight’s time back against top 3yo fillies Dame Giselle and Hungry Heart. These are horses she was narrowly defeated by in stakes races at the beginning of her last preparation. She has clearly come back in good order and this run will give her a fitness edge over those horses when they resume in that race.

There will still be a lot to consider before backing her to turn the tables. Dame Giselle was only narrowly defeated by Nature Strip in a recent trial and Hungry Heart was able to go one better and defeat Nature Strip in a trial only a week ago. Subscribe in the link below to get my final thoughts before that race in a fortnight’s time.
