I’m sure this won’t be the most informative piece for those who watched the races on Saturday but for those that didn’t this was by far the most impressive performance we’ve seen from a 2yo this season.

The Kent and Price trained colt went around a short odds-on favourite in the 2 million dollar Inglis Millennium but those keeping their eye on the early race sectionals may have been worried when Bowman went along at a cracking pace recording sub 11 second times from the 1000-800m and 800-600m. The son of Capitalist had pinched a 3 length lead at the turn and when he found another gear at the 400m it was all over. He won by 5.3L eased down.

When To Bet

Golden Slipper markets were quickly re-released and he came out a $6 2nd favourite behind Enthaar. Punters quickly ripped into that quote and he is now the $4.4 favourite. He will likely have one more run before the Slipper on March 20 where he will no doubt start a short favourite. It was a bunched finished behind him and I’m doubtful whether the opposition was anywhere near the top of the crop but after that performance the $4.4 is looking tempting.

Mount Popa

  • Race 8
  • Distance 1600m
  • Class Open Handicap

Team Hawkes and Legh Racing keep on finding talented gallopers and this imported European stayer is no exception. He came into the race with big expectations behind him after winning at Randwick in his 2nd Australian race start back in June.

On Saturday he had plenty of factors stacked against him being 1st up over an unsuitable trip and in a race where there was never going to be a whole lot of speed.

Berry settled him a touch worse than midfield and he tracked eventual winner Shared Ambition into the race nicely. From the 400-200m he looked like he was going to storm past them but he peaked on his run at the 200m mark but still only just missed in a photo finish.

When To Bet

The Parramatta Cup over 1900m on his home track looks like a fantastic option on March 20.
