The Plunge’s Black Book: Horses Running At Randwick & Caufield 12/5

The Apollo Stakes and the Orr Stake headline a huge day of racing at Randwick and Caufield tomorrow. Black book runners include a nice filly from the Ryan & Alexiu yard that has been sent to Melbourne for an easier assignment, a John Sargent filly that looks wound up for a 1st up tilt and a wet track specialist that never runs a bad race.

Caufield Race 5 – Mallory

This year’s crop of 3yo fillies are as strong as I’ve seen in a long time and I think Mallory is way over the odds with strong form over the Sydney spring. She caught the eye being unlucky on multiple occasions in the Furious and Tea Rose before failing in the Flight. She has returned with 2 solid trials, the latest she finished 3rd behind Embracer and Home Affairs and finished ahead of Zaaki.

I think she will find the Melbourne fillies easier and looks a good bet.

Randwick Race 7 – Four Moves Ahead

Sticking with the 3yo fillies content and a hot field will line up in the G2 Light Fingers Stakes over 1200m. I will admit that I was blown away by the return trial of $1.5 favourite Espiona but I would still like to see her do it against these top fillies before taking a quote like that.

That being said I think the $17 on offer for top class filly Four Moves Ahead is great value. Everything I have seen and heard from the Sargent camp suggests that they have this filly wound up and ready to go for this. She’s had two solid trials rubbing shoulders with some of Sydney’s best horse and the blinkers are on. A lot to like.

Tip: 1 Unit Each Way Four Moves Ahead @$17/$3.5

Randwick Race 8 – Icebath

The connections of Icebath will be hoping for the predicted rain to come and if it does this mare is going to be hard to beat. She was right amongst the countries best mares throughout the spring and was rewarded with a win in the G3 Invitation. Her latest trial suggested that she is close to her best. Expect to see her storming down the outside late.

Tip: 1 Unit Each Way Icebath @$15/$4.4
