The Plunge’s Black Book: Horses Running At Randwick 6/2

The Inglis Millennium for 2yos and The Inglis Sprint for 3yos headline a big day of racing at Randwick on Saturday. Whilst my black booked runners haven’t been missed in early markets, I’m confident we can land a couple of winners and line punters pockets later in the day.

Randwick Race 8 – All Time Legend

All Time Legend was a tragedy beaten last start when he was unlucky not to record his 3rd straight victory. Kerrin McEvoy box seated him behind the leader and it was one of those punter’s nightmare where he was clipping heels with the leader and he couldn’t roll off the fence. When the rails run finally opened at the 100m he flashed home to finish 3rd and charged past the winner 100m past the post.

Here he steps up from a BM 88 to an open grade handicap but is treated to a 6kg weight drop. Admittedly he goes up against some more experienced horses that have been competitive in black type races but he has a fitness edge over a lot of those who are returning from a spell and will be wanting further. He will be peaking in condition himself in his 4th run this prep and looks to be tough to beat here.

There is a genuine lack of pace in the race which is a bit of a concern as I believe he races better just off the speed, however his last win two starts ago saw him lead all the way which is what I have him doing on my map.

Randwick Race 9 – Blaze A Trail

Blaze A Trail earned a spot in my black book at the trials where he flashed home from back in the field and won in an eye-catching manner. I tipped him 1st up but was a little concerned when trainer Matthew Vella said he couldn’t wait to see him race over 2000m in an interview the morning of the race.

He certainly raced like a horse wanting further than 1300m. He settled midfield and plugged away one paced for the majority of the straight before really winding up the last 100m to close off with a strong sectional to finish 2nd.

He gets out to a mile 2nd up in a race where the likes of Ulysses, Debari, Pitchfork and Blondeau will ensure there will be plenty of speed in the last of the day. Expect to see him flashing home late.
