Kensington Race 5 – Pesto
Pesto is an overseas import from the Hawkes yard who earned a spot int he black book after an impressive trial at Rosehill back in March.
In his debut Australian trial, he was slow out of the gates and settled at the rear on the fence before Tommy Berry got him going and he cruised up the inside rail going past horses under a lot more pressure.
He eventually came onto the winner’s heels and looked to have plenty in the tank before finishing 3rd.
I was keen to wait and watch his first career start in Australia and after what I saw at Caufield 1st up I am very keen to launch in here. He settled at the rear and flew home for 2nd. The step up to 1800m is perfect.
He faces a couple of handy horses with Saturday form in Aliferous, Itz Lily and Mr Dependable but the $4 on offer is just too much to pass up.
