According to Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports on Wednesday, the Houston Texans have signed linebacker Devin White of Springhill, Louisiana to a contract. The financial terms of the contract and length of the deal were not disclosed at this time.
White had played his first five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He then signed a one-year deal worth $4 million with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 14. However, he was released by the Eagles on October 8 without playing a single game. Last season with the Buccaneers, White had 83 combined tackles (49 solo tackles and 34 solo tackles), five tackles for a loss, nine quarterback hits, two interceptions for 36 yards, six pass deflections and two and a half sacks.
White was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021. That year he had 128 combined tackles (87 solo tackles and 41 assisted tackles), eight tackles for a loss, 18 quarterback hits, three pass deflections, one fumble recovery for five yards, and three and a half sacks. White’s fumble recovery that season came in a 38-3 Buccaneers win over the Chicago Bears on October 24, 2021.
In 76 career regular games, White has 566 combined tackles (364 solo tackles and 202 assisted tackles), 40 tackles for a loss, 64 quarterback hits, three interceptions for 41 yards, 21 pass deflections, six forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries for 145 yards, two fumble recoveries for a touchdown and 23 sacks. White’s two fumble recoveries for a touchdown came in his rookie season of 2019. That year White co-led the NFL in fumble recoveries for a touchdown alongside Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey of Hoover, Alabama and Buccaneers defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh of Portland, Oregon.
White was also part of the Buccaneers team that won Super Bowl LV. In a 31-9 Buccaneers win over the Kansas City Chiefs, White was exceptional. He had 12 combined tackles (eight solo tackles and four assisted tackles), an interception and a pass deflection.
